Just my opinion but I don't know if it is a great job? Decent but not great. Good not great. I base this on some inside info I have on the situation there.

I know numbers for spring ball weren't spectacular. The current soph (going to be Juniors) has a pretty good class, but the class before and after them are not much to brag about.

But I will say there are 3 assistants who have each been rumored to be very interested, so it'll be intriguing for sure.

I am obviously biased, but Mason is a very good job. The numbers are down a little ( 35 in grades 10-12; should have 15-20 frosh), but that is happening most places. There is a very good core returning, and although many seniors graduated, a bunch of young kids got experience and are a year a head of schedule due to the injuries last season.

There are guys on staff that are prepared, qualified, and deserving of a shot at being HC. Whatever they decide is best for their family and the kids in the program will determine if they pursue it or not.

This is a highly unusual situation .....I am leaving Mason County because I have been there 19 years and my gut tells me the program will benefit from a change and Mercer County is an opportunity/challenge that is a very good fit for me at this stage as a football coach.

I feel blessed to have had 19 years in one place go incredibly well. That is a long time in this day and age. But, I knew people would suspect something was wrong/ I was mad/ got run off, etc. None of that is the case. Whoever gets to be the head coach at Mason next fall will be fortunate to do so. He will have to work very hard, but will have a very good job.

God Bless the Royals and Titans!

Caverna now open (as of 4/2)

Powell County open (as of 3/23)

Both per the KHSAA. That now makes an even 50 on the year.

Won't this be the 4th Caverna coach is 4 or 5 years? Gotta feel bad for those kids.

And it's crazy to me that almost 1/4 of the jobs in the state have been, or are, open.

Not trying to be negative but some of those jobs on that list that are left open I don't know why some people would want to take them.

I think so. They are also looking for a new boys basketball coach, about the same number within the last 7-8 years & they have a new AD.

It's a Class A school that is far from "talent less", but its got it's share of issues it seems.

I'll always believe that you can have success just about anywhere, but I feel like we're getting into jobs where it's hard. Like, really hard to have success. Not all left are bad, but it would take a special person to win at some of these places.

You can, but all of the ingredients have to be right. The best thing about some of these jobs that are at the bottom of the barrel? They play a schedule full of others who are as well. If you're terrible, and your schedule is full of terrible....then you have a chance to build something (whatever that something is).

Not downing Allen Harris but who is he and did the program just put a sign up on 25 and the first person in the door got the job. Good luck coach.
