Let's face it, Etown's "football" facility was built for their girls soccer team...that's the reality! Etown doesn't get to use the locker room except for game nights...that sums it up right there!

What? That's crazy.

Im hearing Sheldon Clark made a hire, meeting tonight, former Bell Co asst.

Caverna now open (as of 4/2)

Powell County open (as of 3/23)

Both per the KHSAA. That now makes an even 50 on the year.

Powell County open? Where did Coach Burchett go?

According to KHSAA Open Jobs' list it is open. I'm wondering the same thing myself.

Right you are PM. The meeting actually got moved back to Monday. Sheldon Clark hired Adam Turner. Adam played at Bell County under Dudley in the late 90's, ended up going to Campbellsville University and having a nice career. He's been an assistant the last 9 years or so at Marion County, Anderson County and Bell County. He's played and learned under some good ones, and one heck of a guy to boot.

Best of luck to "Boomer"!

News to me, too ASB. I'm not sure how many years Coach Burchett has in, but it could be one of those things where he is able to draw full retirement. I could be wrong, though.

I'll see what I can find out.

E-town is an enigma in football. They always have been.

On the surface you think:

-Independent school that just so happens to be in a heck of a town. Always has been, and literally growing more and more by the day.

-The kids of the most prominent families in E-town/Hardin County? That's where they go. Financial support isn't an issue. For those not familiar w/ E-town, but other areas of the state. Take a round abouts 30,000 chunk out of the east end of Louisville, or most any part of Lexington that size or the parts of Bowling Green that populate BGHS. That's what makes up E-town High School.

-Given the above, it goes without saying that they are one of the top schools in our state every year. 1st class academically.

-They absolutely dominate across the 5th region more years than not in most sports.

Ever been in their gym? It's getting to the point where they need extra lighting for all of the region/state championship banners that hang in the rafters from all of their other sports. They are the cream of the crop in the 5th year in, year out; from girls basketball to swimming and everything in between.

Yet.....when you think about all of the other Independent schools across our state that sound very similar to the above, success in football at the level of others is missing.

Highlands, Bowling Green, Danville, Mayfield, Beechwood, Corbin, Owensboro, Tilghman, Hazard, Somerset, Glasgow....the list could be added to, but that's a whole lot region finals-state championships (Somerset and Glasgow being the only ones who don't have a State Title, but they have been there a slew of times) amongst those schools. E-town? Not so much. They've played in the State Finals a couple times, but they've not had the success of the aforementioned..not even close. Now, if there was ever going to be a year to make all of that a distant thought...it's this year.

But, there is more to that story than the three (well, 2 of three) not so good years of the Adam Billings tenure...I can assure you.

Hearing he's hanging it up...

You would think there will be a ton of interest in the Mason County job... Could be some more dominoes falling - though it is getting late!

If this were earlier in the year, no doubt, but most current head coaches opt not to leave for other HC jobs in what will likely be a May hire. Not all, but leaving their current gigs, kids and not to mention having to try and sell a house in a shorter time often deters many that would likely have gone after a job like this open in November, Dec, Jan, Feb.

I think you will see a ton of coordinators, guys w/ previous HC experience who have gone back to being an assistant and even some of the guys who were casualties at some of these 50 openings this past year check it out. I'd be shocked if that doesn't make up most of the applicants, along with any of the guys on staff at Mason that might want the job.
