Open Jobs/Filled Jobs 2014-2015

Featured Replies

An average of 40 jobs changes equals an 18% turnover rate. Granted, some of those open jobs were because coaches went from School A to School B so that bumps up the percentage, but 1-in-5 coaches leaving a job every year seems like a large number.

Also, something worth pointing out is a lot of these schools are repeat offenders in that time, also, which bumps up the number.

After this year, the best thing to do would just be to list the schools who HAVEN'T had a coaching change (s) in the last 5-6 years. Unfortunately, I don't think it would be that hard.

I'd love to know who the best and worst schools have been over that time span. I'd love to see numbers on schools who stuck with somebody even when things got rough. I mean, there are a lot of guys who had a bad year or two (some even 3) whom I would trust completely to lead a team to success.

Also be interesting to see if there has been any school with a high coaching turnover as well as a pretty decent winning percentage.

One example might be Newport Catholic, although that's kind of a stretch. Bob Schneider was there forever and is the third winningest coach in Kentucky. Eviston came in a was successful then went to Georgetown. After that, Wagner had carried on the program very well. Of course that turnover is from retirements and promotions, not quite the same as firing someone for a bad season.

Since 09 playing season/2010 off season (Doesn't seem that long ago does it?) here are the numbers for Class A-3A (using the 2011-2014 alignment). These are the schools who HAVEN'T had a coaching change.

Thanks Harry, one of the things that jumps out and I do not have accurate numbers in front of me but from following football MOST of these teams have been quite successful. Maybe loyalty, consistency and longevity might have something to do with this and the fact they have built their programs and kept them sustained. KUDOS to these schools administrators for doing this.

I look for one of these to no longer be on this list come July.

I didn't know it was that high in the last 5 years. For some reason I thought it was in the high 20s to low 30s. I wonder if their is a significant amount of the same jobs that keep opening up every couple to few years. Maybe a reason to look at the school's administration, athletic administration, school dynamics, etc. I think this is a huge problem we need to solve in a hurry if we want this sport to succeed. This is just too many jobs open every year.

Yea and if you want young guys to go into to coaching because when they see this kind of thing they are not going to go into something that is not even close to stably. Admin are clueless!!!!!

In 1A, Nicholas County has not been open.

3A West Carter hasn't been open either.
