The Messenger tweeted out today and confirmed Shane Decker from Grayson Co. is Hopkins County Central's New Coach So you can mark them off the list.

Anyone have any word from Owensboro or who's applied for Mad. North Hopkins?

Any word out of Mercer County? Who are some candidates being considered?

If things hold true to form in Mercer Co. we should know about May.

Haven't heard any rumors or of applications submitted.

Spring ball not all that far off would think that of all the jobs open right now Mercer would have some movement fairly soon.

You would think. Spring practice last year for Mercer was right after Spring Break, I think.

43 Job openings in one year...wow...what is the most in recent times...I would think 43 would smash the previous all time high.

It's actually about par for the previous 5 years to be honest. Average was at just about 40. (I think it was 39.8 or something like that).

I have all of that at home on a tablet, but the screen is busted up and I just haven't sent it off to get fixed. Did it over the summer...just went through the KHSAA scoreboard site, checked off the schools/coaches for each year from 09-14.

After this year, the best thing to do would just be to list the schools who HAVEN'T had a coaching change (s) in the last 5-6 years. Unfortunately, I don't think it would be that hard.

I didn't know it was that high in the last 5 years. For some reason I thought it was in the high 20s to low 30s. I wonder if their is a significant amount of the same jobs that keep opening up every couple to few years. Maybe a reason to look at the school's administration, athletic administration, school dynamics, etc. I think this is a huge problem we need to solve in a hurry if we want this sport to succeed. This is just too many jobs open every year.

An average of 40 jobs changes equals an 18% turnover rate. Granted, some of those open jobs were because coaches went from School A to School B so that bumps up the percentage, but 1-in-5 coaches leaving a job every year seems like a large number.

Poor pay...seemingly dangerous legalities...continuous restrictions...huge money issues...difficulties finding help...

It goes on and on...

The gap between experienced quality HC's and the majority of the coaches in the state is only going to widen. It's a tough gig. Tip of the hat to the men who make the sacrifices to do it.

Yep.

And, sadly...the bolded isn't as high as we would all originally think either.

This offseason for instance; of the 43 now open...3-4 are open due to coaches playing leap frog? (It's back in this thread somewhere).
