NKY Middle School Boys Basketball 2014/15

OK. Probably a younger Mayer.

I am sure he is talking about AJ Mayers little brother. He is a man amongst boys. And he really looks like a Maile.

Conner sweeps Turkeyfoot tonight in middle school action. 6th grade game saw a good game from #3 and #4, #4 probably would have had 30 points if he makes all the layups he had.

7th grade game was a blowout but saw Hicks roll his ankle in the second half...hopefully it is nothing serious and he is ready for action on Thursday.

8th grade saw a nice game from Ginn and Campbell...the two guards shot well and had numerous drives through the lane for easy buckets.

In answer to hoops5 question, I'm in favor of just running this thread all season. Just seems easier to have one place to go than a couple of different ones.

Michael Mayer

The Mayer kid is a very nice player, it was fun watching him battle with Huddleston from Highlands.

Nick Thelen once he Gets the ball on The block its going in. He is just too tall and has too much skill for opposing 8th graders to stop. Oh and he has hops for sure. Highlands played uninspired basketball and laid a huge egg in the first half falling behind 20-10 at the half. A better 3rd qtr cut the lead at times to 6 but they could Never get closer. Silly turnovers and lack of scoring from any guards really made for a tough night. Throw in really bad FT shooting and you get a 48-38 loss. 2nd loss in a row to parochial teams in IHM and St. Plus which IMO shouldnt happen when you look at the overall talent and experience of this Team. If Coldiron and Thelen both end up at Cov Cath and that Mayer kid follows, Wow they are going to be loaded down the road.

I saw the Blazer helping coach the 7th Grade HHS team last night. Is his son Scott not coaching this year?

What Maile kid?

Maer or Mayer. Sorry, got him mixed up. Go to a St. Pius game. He is the one with the flat top and 20" arms. Just a beast.

I know I am the minority wanting to know this but I'd love to know the age of these kids who seem so much more mature than others in their grades. I know Lebron James was 6'6" when he was 13 but there are some serious physical differences in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. I am all about praising a kid who excels but the ones who are holdbacks need to keep it real at this level.

I think I heard he is with the high school staff.

This kid has incredibly athletic bloodlines. His brother, I heard, got varsity minutes as a Frosh in football. Cousin was Mr. Baseball and is in AA minor league baseball. Tons of family have had great athletic careers. I have no idea if he is a hold back or not. Doesn't matter with him. His genetics are to be big and athletic and he has a good skill set.

Really like the posting and updates for NKY Middle School Basketball.:thumb: In past years' date=' BGP had a trend going with a new "NKY Middle School bball" thread each week. Thoughts on that? Or keep it as a running thread all season?[/quote']

I love the yearly threads.

The new thread for each Reds' series nearly ruined the threads, in my opinion.

Brother is also playing JV basketball as a frosh at Cov Cath. Uncle Rich I heard was a pretty good athlete at Highlands as well, and don't forget about Grandpa - Being a member of the All Century Basketball team at LSU. So, yea - some pretty good bloodlines in that family.

I have no idea what his birthday is, but he's not a hold back. He plays baseball in the age division that corresponds with a typical 7th Grader. On top of having good Maile genes, his dad was a three sport stand out at McNick and a starting catcher for Ohio U. He may have an "early" birthday, but that's as far as it goes.

He is a legit 7th grader and as with his brother AJ not only has great talent he was blessed with but works his tail off. Also doesn't hurt that he is Ruthatz neighbor.

Scott sits on as a Varsity assistant now. He was approached by Listerman in the off season and it's a great opportunity that Scott couldn't pass up. Just loves coaching Basketball! And he is pretty good at it.....
