NKY Middle School Boys Basketball 2014/15

It was an ugly game, but watching Mayer and Huddleston battle it out was fun. Neither gave an inch, both played hard. This is going to be a great matchup in 3 years...on the football field, if Mayer plays. They both have really bright futures.

Huddleston is an absolute animal on the football field. He will be something special!

Scott sits on as a Varsity assistant now. He was approached by Listerman in the off season and it's a great opportunity that Scott couldn't pass up. Just loves coaching Basketball! And he is pretty good at it.....

Agreed - Scott is a good man.

Mayer does play FB - I assume that will carry forward. I believe he is a RB/LB.

I am sure he is talking about AJ Mayers little brother. He is a man amongst boys. And he really looks like a Maile.

AJ and Michael Mayer are 1st cousins with the Maile family - their Mom is a Maile. So the looks (and obviously athletic talents) are similar.

They will definitely bang heads for 4 yrs in HS because Huddy is an outstanding LB and loves contact.

Conner 6th wins again, 47 to 32 vs Woodland. This group plays Beechwood tomorrow at Conner. I believe this is more of a scrimmage than a game, but it will be a good one to watch. Conner had 6 kids with 6+ points, very balanced scoring. Everytime Woodland would cut it to 9 the Colts would score 4-6 in a row in a matter of seconds. This group is looking better every game.

7th rolled in their game. Jared Hicks was out with a turned ankle but will be back very soon.

The 8th grade game was a good one. I have to admit the officiating was terrible, they called so many fouls that neither team could get anything going. Ginn had a good game, carried the team in the 3rd but was a little to passive in the 4th. Woodlands pulled away hitting free throws in the end. Houston and the other big had a good game, very nice big combo.

Conner 6th grade is not that good.

Woodland 6th grade is a team to watch.

Highlands 6th grade won't lose a game all year.

Just wondering if you wanted to reconsider your comments about Conner 6th not being good...beat both IHM and Woodland by double digits. I agree about Highlands they were good but Conner played terrible had over 20 turnovers and basically lost the game in the 4th quarter.

Woodland 6th has 2 of the best players in NKy on it in Kelly Neace and Grant Proffit. I was told Kelly was sick as a dog and throwing up in the locker room last night. Grant has a broken arm and didn't play at all. Plus there was another kid that plays with those 2 on the NKY Thunder that didn't play either. So I would limit your comments until at least they have their 2 best players and then see how the game turns out. Because I know in AAU those kids that are on the Conner team that play against the Thunder have never even come close to beating them. Wait until kids are healthy. I do believe that Conner is a pretty good school team though.

SPX vs Holmes last night...

6th - Holmes by 2 (46-44)

7th - SPX by 10 (or so) - didn't see final score

8th - SPX by 3 (50-47)

Any other updates out there to report? I heard Camp Earnst 8th grade beat Holmes the other night by 18.....

IHM beat Summit View in the 6th grade game.

Summit View hit a 3 at the buzzer to win the 7th grade game.

IHM also won the 8th grade game.

Who is playing well in IHM 6th and 7th? I am familiar with the IHM 8th roster. Several studs, indeed.

Vieth, Bessler, and Sora are solid players for the 6th. Keily, Brockman, and Schrieber seem to lead the the 7th grade, although from game to game others help out with scoring.

Highlands swept Ockerman last night.

8th Grade game the Birds won by 7 or 8 I believe. They allowed Ockerman to stay in a game they should have won handedly. Spencer didn't assert himself for Ockerman like he should IMO. He is the biggest kid on the team so they have him in the middle. The dark haired guard for Ockerman is fast and has a lot of potential. Macke scored well for Highlands and Finn was solid on the offensive glass getting several stickbacks.
