Trust me it isn't their choice. Beechwood's 6th grade is probably one of the better 6th grade teams. A lot of kids that have played AAU at a high level.

 

True. Best talent in 6th grade. I think IHM and Highlands may be closest, and probably have played more as a team. Not bad 8th or 7th Grades at BHS. What is the story here? I heard Conner was the only big school that would play them. Is that true? Why is region split for MS in a state where there is still one champ in HS?

As a NewCath guy I say this with the upmost respect. That team is like when the Pangallo brothers used to play rec. ball

together. Great ball handlers, quick ball movement, decisive penetration and quick shooters. They make up for lack of height on the boards with sheer hustle and anticipation. Fun team to watch.

Agreed. If the inside game in 7th grade is as good as hyped elsewhere in this thread, HHS should be very good when 2019-20.

Nick Thelen is the Pius 8th grade big guy. His sister plays volleyball for Penn State. Very athletic family.

Excellent player. Super athletic with size. Rich are getting richer at CCH.

I think Beechwood would be fine if they played MS kids up. Mattingly, Rolf and Downton were put in 7th v Bracken...played about half the game. When they were in game was even. When out, BC was up 10. .BC had a box and one on Mattingly by end of game...

Conner 6th gave Beechwood 6th all they could handle. Very entertaining game. After playing Highlands, Beechwood, IHM, and Woodland I would say Beechwood is the better of the 4. Conner looses by 4 but it could have been the other way very easily. I was impressed by I believe #23 for Beechwood, very athletic kid.

 

I must admit that the synchronized clapping by the 6th grade Beechwood parents was very impressive...does anyone know if they practice as a group?

 

Conner 7th wins by 13, nice win for the Colts. Looks like some of the Ampipe AAU team makes up the 7th grade, those kids play hard. #41, I believe his name is Ayden is a really good guard. Very smart with the ball and knows how to draw fouls.

 

Beechwood 8th wins by 1 over Conner...went down to the wire.

 

Agreed. Aiden Bieger is the 7th grader.

I also understand the BW 7th lost to Bracken Co without their 3 best players. Derry was in a football event, and Bieger and McGuire were playing up on the 8th grade team that day. The 6th grade BW team does a few nice players.

IHM 6th beat Campbell by about 7.

IHM 7th beat Campbell by about 10.

Campbell 8th beat IHM by 2.

Highlands 6th beat St Agnes by a bunch

Highlands 7th (playing without 2 starters Salter and ? ) lost in OT by 2. Referee called a foul on a desperation 3 by St. Agnes in regulation with zero sec on clock and let him shoot 3 FT's. He hit 2 of the 3 and went to OT. Huddleston fouled out in regulation. Highlands was playing with 5 guards in OT. St. Agnes has a really nice player who literally scored all of their points.

Highlands 8th won by 6 or 7 I think. It was about as ugly a performance as I have ever seen out of that group. There is a lot of potential in that group but at this point it is just potential. I see some really questionable Basketball IQ out there which somewhat amazes me since they seem to have legitimate talent.

I forgot what the original question was.

I believe the 7th grade player from St Agnes is Neil Green. He has a great upside, and could become a really good player. He is tall and very athletic. He high points rebounds, and is relentless at going after the ball. Offensively, he is very good around the basket, and can score from a variety of angles - uses the backboard well. Once he gets stronger and develops a 10 - 15 ft jump shot, he will be hard to stop. Has a very quick and long first step to blow by defenders in the paint area.

Now I remember. You always shoot FTs in the order of the fouls. If there is a T you never have any FTs with anyone on the lane. Plus it's ALWAYS ball out at midcourt.
