Michigan wants Stoops.....

What if someone from his circle is running their mouth? These leaks seem to end up more true than not.

Very unlikely. Guys in that business don't get to that level, and stay at that level, by being a sieve.

Have you reviewed a P&L on each sport?

No I have not but to pay him around what Cal is making is a huge risk. His bro makes 5.25 a year and has titles, giving Mark 4-5 is very risky but might be required to keep him.

If they offer .... He Gone

You're absolutely right, but in PP92's defense, some of those guys won't be at that level for long. :D

The back door talk Mich is having with everyone won't come out till December. I assure you it's happening though.

I fear you are correct.

I think Michigan fans would freak if Stoops were hired, he still hasn't proven much yet to get that type of job.

The thought being that paying 4-5 to and up and comer like Stoops could be seen as a slap in the face to a coach at the top of the college game like Cal and would risk nudging Cal to the NBA?

Work under the assumption that Cal will be in the loop at the highest level at every step. Mitch is really good at what he does, he'll have Cal's buy-in and support on every step because, you know, Mitch knows where his bread is buttered. He also knows what 70,000 season tickets and a stronger football program would mean in terms of potential dollars down the road.

Well certainly Cal eats first and its a bball school. But I don't think it will drive Cal to the NBA, he might feel just a tad less important with his ego lol.

I think the fear is your paying a guy National Champ money, when they might only be a cross between Vandy and Miss State.

Wait for it. Anyone want to guess how long it will be?

True. It only takes one of them to assure the big money booster that they are taking care of things. Once the big money booster knows the scoop he's running that mouth with no fear of repercussion.

How long was Franklin at Vandy? If I'm an AD, two years is not enough time to properly evaluate a potential head coach, especially with the new demands that early success brings.

This is what I'm thinking as well. UK has made leaps and bounds since Stoops has been in town, but what has he really done to warrant a job like Michigan at this point?

I understand where you are coming from. I think some people are looking at Stoops and asking, "if he can get a program as historically bad as UK and a school where football has historically taken a back seat to basketball and get them in a position where it looks like they may eventually get out of the perennial bottom of the SEC, what could he do at a real football school like Michigan or Florida?"

For so long people have accused UK of not taking football seriously and being hesitant to extend his contract and then losing him would almost cement that accusation. UK going ahead and extending his contract and taking his pay to a level that could be argued that he has not earned quite yet would do two things. 1) It either makes other schools decide to look elsewhere for their coach or makes it easier for Stoops to say no thank you and 2) it gives some assurance to kids looking at UK that Stoops will be there their entire college career should they decide to sign with UK.
