If he keeps improving at UK he has nothing to worry about.. If he doesn't beat OSU at Michigan his job is on the line..
October 10, 201411 yr UK vs. "Big Name" school Factors: 1) Salary - I would think that UK would be close to matching anything offered by "Big Name". 2) Facilities - UK is improving things to come up to "Big Name" standards. 3) Prestigious Conference - It is impossible to improve on the SEC. 4) Pressure To Win - UK fans would be THRILLED with 8-win seasons & decent bowls each year. But that's not enough for a "Big Name" school that expects national championships. 4A) In fact if Stoops wins 8-10 games each year, they will erect a statue of him. 5) Bigger Fan Base vs. "Owning" the state of Kentucky. These are the factors just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are others. It all depends on what Mark Stoops values.

He has a real chance at big time recruits and a National title there. No chance to consistently get big time recruits at UK and little, if no chance, at National Title in the SEC. These guys have egos and they want championships and they know the pressure.

Stoops doesn't seem like a guy with an ego to me. Think.what you want, I just don't see that in him. Of course Michigan offers more opportunities with less time, but it also gives him a chance to be fired within a couple of years if he can't keep the natives happy. It's much harder to keep Michigan fans happy than it is UK fans. I know that if I was at my first HC job I would rather spend a little more time than 2 years making a name for myself. If you make the jump to a big time school and get canned for not winning the conference within a year or two, you have pretty much committed career suicide.

It also has much higher expectations, which would put a guy that has been a head coach for less than two years on a very short leash. Personally if I am an aspiring coach, I don't want that type of job before I spend several years as a HC. If he takes it now at a school like Michigan, its recipe for disaster.

I really feel Stools can fit into this.

Great question. I think in general, Kentucky football is looked at as a "stepping stone" job. I say this because the vast majority of coaches want to be at a place where they can recruit with the name and have a real opportunity to win the National Championship. Kentucky is just not that place in football, Virginia Tech for instance, is not that place for basketball. However, there might be that person out there who might just like everything about Kentucky, his family is happy, he wants to be grounded, and the money is more than enough to keep them. That is very difficult to ever know when you hire them. They all will tell you Kentucky is where they want to be.

Michigan has the potential to be one of the top jobs in the country.
October 10, 201411 yr I just don't see kids going north to play ball like they did in the past. You never know. I never expected UK to be getting the talent they have been getting under Stoops.

That said, if Stoops were to use Kentucky as a stepping stone I would much rather it be a few years from now. At that point the program should be well enough established to make another good hire. If he left at the end of this season, it would be another story. My overall opinion though, is that even though he has showed us here in Kentucky that he can coach and recruit well, he still hasn't finished his second season as a head coach. I mentioned earlier that if I was a second year coach I wouldn't take a job at a school like Michigan, because it could be career suicide. On Michigan's part, why would they take that risk? I just don't see it happening. No matter how many "what if's" can be thought of. It's just not logical for either party.
October 10, 201411 yr Let's see: Hoyer - Michigan State Big Ben - Miami of Ohio Cousins - Michigan State Brady - Michigan Orton - Purdue Flacco - Delaware Fitzpatrick - Harvard Locker - Washington Romo - Eastern Illinois Smith - WVU These certainly wouldn't be considered warm weather. And the majority of them shouldn't be considered QBs.
