I think when you vote on this thread, you should have to list your age...I'd say you'll see it's pretty generational as to how most of us are voting.

 

As for the calls for Frisk, and some of these others, no, they don't belong in this conversation. It's a two horse race, plain and simple.

 

I'll cast my vote (I'm 36) to Alexander.

That's fine. Just use his high school accomplishments and not his Madden cover when trying to prove your point. :lol2:

 

Show me someone who made the cover of Madden who isn't a high school legend in their State and I'll show you a coach who can't recognize talent.

 

That's God given ability. I don't care how hard some people work, they won't be able to do things Shaun Alexander or Damian Harris are able to do on the field.

Some names that won't appear on the all-time rushing lists I would add are Artose Pinner(Hop-Twn). Damion Hood(Warren Central). Damon Carter(Henderson County). Daylan Dawkins(Trinity).

No doubt about it. Best high school all around running back I've ever seen. That kid was electric!!! Everytime he touched the ball it seemed like something good happened. How he didn't win Mr. Football is beyond me

Stats mean nothing in most cases, look at Dominque Hayden, all time this and that, never got a college offer as far as I know.

Harris saw pretty good competition at that Elite camp that was on ESPN didn't he? Does that count? I'm thinking he made a good showing there. Enough to still be named the #1 RB in the country when he left.

 

Zeke Pike killed camps. Treat Diller drooled over him at the Elite 11 and was a top 10 QB. He wasn't very good. Alexander played tough competition, in pads, in games that counted. That is one big thing that has to taken into account when stay heads start throwing out numbers. Who did you play in real games? Camps ate nice, results when the lights go on mean more to me. Also, had there been Nike type camps, rest assured Alexander would have been there. His measurable are a tick off of Harris, so no, he wouldn't be number 1 coming out of camps.

I'm still sticking with Alexander having a really, really, really damned good KY HS career. I'll stick by saying that if he weren't in the same years as Tim Couch (who was named one of ESPN's 10 Best High School Athletes EVER), then he'd have his Mr. Football hardware and people would think more of him.

 

It's not like you just get down to signing with Notre Dame or Alabama and explode once you get there.

 

It's hard to say that the best guy ever wasn't even Mr. Football in his own class, but it's not like Alexander was really playing in a typical year either.

The first 40 that I ever ran was working with the Dave G. And it was against Shaun. I can tell you exactly how fast he was in a race. Not a burner, but a smooth sneaky fast w great body control. Nobody got into and out of cuts as gracefully as him.

I think Sonny Collins needs some mention and thought from older days.

 

Danville's all-time best back was Chris Jones. Parade All-American his Senior year and courted heavily by Switzer at OU. He went to UK instead and was the leading Freshman rusher in the SEC the only full year he played. His Sophomore year he literally blew up his knee against IU and never played again. Tragic.

 

Al Baker was built for it and had a great HS career but never did much beyond spot moments at UK. Still, in HS he had speed, strength and size.

 

Joe Casey I only saw once. It was vs the last Chuck Smith Championship team. Boyle held him in check except for one play. About 80 yards for a TD and he showed in that one play how special his talent was.

If Damien Harris is in the conversation then I think the names he is competing with are Sonny Collins, Shaun Alexander, and Michael Bush.

They were debating this topic on KSR last week. Ryan Lemond stated that he never got the chance to see Alexander, but said that the two best he'd ever seen were Bush & Eric Shelton. He then said that he thought Harris was better than both of them.

 

I've never seen any of them. I voted for Alexander, but I could change that once the season is over & we see how Harris finishes his career.
