He was not better than Paul Hourning or Dicky Lyons but he was a great one!

 

Again, Hourning was a QB in high school. You can't be the best high school RB in state history if you didn't play the position. I'm sure Lyons had a great career at X, but if he was so good as a RB, why was he a DB in the NFL???

I agree that Hourning is not the best Kentucky HS RB in History, but is he the best RB from Kentucky?

 

If you discount Lyons because of a position change later, is that really fair? I LOT of player in the NFL played another position in HS, doesn't mean they weren't great at that position...just a better fit for what ever reason somewhere else in college or NFL. I guess Randall Cobb must not have been very good at QB in HS since he had to change positions to make it in the NFL.

When you are splitting hairs to determine the greatest ever across generations, little things matter. I'm sure Lyons was fantastic, but he wasn't good enough to play RB at the highest level, and to me that matters in a debate to decide the hypothetical best.

 

If you changed the premise to best ever RB from KY, Hourning jumps right to the top of the list with Alexander without question. Two horse race with the HoF being a powerful trump card...
