Flu shot

Featured Replies

The hospital that I work for has mandated it for several years. Doesn't bother me. I am not personally worried about getting the flu, but would feel bad if I spread it to someone more vulnerable. People, especially those with other health issues can die from the flu.

Unfortunately for you, citycat is right. Pharmacies only ever order and use the single-dose vials for use in their pharmacies so it contains no mercury.

I got the flu in the mid 80's and thought I was going to die. Have gotten one every year since, no side effects, no flu. I got mine 3 weeks ago. I have never had a vaccine or medicine that did not work for me. I guess I am just one of those lucky one's up to now where what the doctor orders and suggests works. My Dr. highly recommends it.

So who has had a flu shot and still got the flu due to the wrong strain?

Have gotten a flu shot every year for the last 20 years. Have not had the flu for 20 years.

Most people who have a reaction, have it the first time they get the shot. Why, because if you already have the flu or are carrying a flu virus that is in the vaccine they are going to clash. Typically it is a slight fever and mild flu symptoms, but it can be full blown flu. Remember you are actually putting flu virus in your body.

After the first time, most people have no reaction when they get their annual shot.

Are vaccines an end all be all and 100% safe - no, but for most people they are a great thing.

All I know is I never even got a sniffle when I was in the service, and for several years after. Whatever it was they pumped us full of worked.

To be clear, you can't get the flu from the flu vaccine, injected flu vaccines only contain dead virus.

I direct you to this specific section in particular:

As someone who has worked in multiple pharmacies from Chains to Independents, pharmacies only every order the single dose vials and thus no mercury, etc. is contained in these products.

Rather a side question for you but do you believe that vaccines can cause autism?

I do think it can lead to autism, not every case, but yes.

Exactly! I always shake my head when people say that they got the flu after getting the shot. First, what most people consider the flu is mostly something else, flu like symptoms, which may make you feel horrible but it's not the flu.

Plus, you're suppose to be healthy when getting a shot. I remember a few years back they told a person in front of me to come back when they get rid of the sniffles. I take it your immune system needs to be not dealing with something else.

Correct.

According to our nurse at work, the issue is if you have or are already carrying the flu. The shot can cause a reaction.

So they want you to be healthy when you get the shot.

Got mine Friday.

STILL HERE! And better yet, I'm pretty sure I'm not autistic.

Artistic certainly.

The sickest I ever got in my life was the day before I was taking a pathology final while I was being highly educated. Got the vaccine the evening before. May be a coincidence, but never been that sick ever. I swore that motherscratcher off for good. I've had the flu, it's not a drop in the bucket to what I was for that stretch. However, both my kids have mild forms of asthma, and I make them get it every year. I have been blessed to have a silly immunity. I suppose that it's due to my continuous exposure to every thing coming and going. Oh, and I deal with mercury every day. Maybe it's the mercury that has me fit as a fiddle.

Nasal flu vaccines are live, but attenuated or weakened. Live, nonetheless.
