Flu shot

Featured Replies

So you got the flu shot and still got the flu?

No, I had never had a flu shot, then I got the flu and nearly died. Now I get a flu shot every year.

Got mine Tuesday. Had never taken the shot up until 3 years ago and had never really had a bad bout with the Flu but I'm getting older and my doctor suggested I start. No problems so far.

I have a Dr apt the 8th and plan on getting mine then. I get one every year and so does our son, but my husband won't get one.

I've never had a flu shot either. I don't want the Government tracking me.

Not sure about tracking but I can not remember when I last got one. After two years in a row of getting the flu after getting the shot - that they say can not happen - my wife has quit getting them.

If you want to amp up the paranoia watch 'Bug' with Ashley Jude.

If you can prevent illness why not?

Some. It only covers certain strains and what they believe will be the bad ones.

Single dose vials of the flu shot do NOT contain mercury or thimersol. Its perfectly safe to recieve.

I got my first flu shot in January of 2013 after not getting one for my first 42 years. After getting talked into it by my doctor. I had a little bit of a reaction, just a slight fever and some chills that night. I just had another one in early September, and had zero reaction. I feel it's better safe than sorry as I'm getting older. I know there have been some serious bad reactions out there that have happened, but every doctor I know recommends them, and almost everyone I know has had flu shots with no issues. I've never had the flu, and would rather not tempt fate.

Have gotten a flu shot every year for the last 20 years. Have not had the flu for 20 years.

Most people who have a reaction, have it the first time they get the shot. Why, because if you already have the flu or are carrying a flu virus that is in the vaccine they are going to clash. Typically it is a slight fever and mild flu symptoms, but it can be full blown flu. Remember you are actually putting flu virus in your body.

After the first time, most people have no reaction when they get their annual shot.

Are vaccines an end all be all and 100% safe - no, but for most people they are a great thing.

All I know is I never even got a sniffle when I was in the service, and for several years after. Whatever it was they pumped us full of worked.

The nurse at our facility said that the vaccine actually lasts about 16 months. The recommendation is to get it mid October. That way, for any strains not in this years vaccine, last years will carry you through mid February. Which is almost the end of flu time.

Says the CDC: Thimerosal and 2014-2015 Seasonal Flu Vaccines | Seasonal Influenza (Flu) | CDC

I direct you to this specific section in particular:

Do the 2014-2015 seasonal flu vaccines contain thimerosal?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved several formulations of the seasonal flu vaccine, including multi-dose vials and single-dose units. (See Table of Approved Influenza Vaccines for the U.S. 2014–2015 Season.) Since seasonal influenza vaccine is produced in large quantities for annual vaccination campaigns, some of the vaccine is produced in multi-dose vials, and contains thimerosal to safeguard against possible contamination of the vial once it is opened.

The single-dose units are made without thimerosal as a preservative because they are intended to be opened and used only once. Additionally, the live-attenuated version of the vaccine (the nasal spray vaccine), is produced in single-dose units and does not contain thimerosal.

As someone who has worked in multiple pharmacies from Chains to Independents, pharmacies only every order the single dose vials and thus no mercury, etc. is contained in these products.

Rather a side question for you but do you believe that vaccines can cause autism?
