At the end of the day if military personnel are offended by it he was in the wrong. If they are ok with it so be it. It doesn't offend me but I've never served. So basically I will defer judgement to those that have.

100% this.

He is the freaking Commander-in-Chief!!

No one should use the word inept, clueless, and poor effort to describe the leader of the free world, much less a two term leader..........but yet this is what we got.

Amazing.

Egotistical, clueless. Yes, I do think that. I don't think he intentionally meant to disrespect anyone with his salute. I do think he is not tuned in enough to know why. It'd be completely different if he had a "screw that, I'm not saluting" attitude. I think he has walked on and off of planes and helicopters so much that he takes it for granted that he has this military presence at all times. I bet the only time he salutes is when he knows cameras are on him when he gets off of those planes and helicopters.

He needs some better PR folks around him.

I swear I missed out on a lucrative Public Relations firm calling. Celebrities, athletes and politicians are horrible in public relations these days. I'd make a killing.

I honestly don't think Obama respects anyone.

Speaking of jackwagons, Allen West needs to find a real job rather than hang out on his website all day and disrespect our commander in chief.

This latest video is hardly new. Other examples of Obama non-salutes, etc. are on youtube. It's a popular topic among those who like to bash our first Hawaiian president.

There goes that racism again. Won't be long before the misogyny rears it's ugly head.

GOP had an excellent chance to oust the president two years ago. But the party of Sarah Palin blew it yet again. In 26 months you'll have yet another opportunity. Good luck. You'll need it.

Should have read ahead before my last reply. There's the misogyny.

I don't think any politicians do but some fake it better than others. He's gotten worse at public relations each year.

Here's more misogyny. Did you read about the recent fight that the Palins got involved in? It was a doozy. I think I read that Bristol decked some guy while Sarah was yelling, "Don't you know who I am?!" And the GOP offered her up to be one (old) heartbeat away from leader of the free world.

Contrast that snowbilly behavior with President Obama saluting with a cup of java in his hand. Sheesh.

Not a Palin fan by no means.

She is not the Commander in Chief, however. Just another citizen.

I heard tonight on ABC news that the practice of saluting began with Reagan. So I guess all the presidents who traveled by helicopter prior to Reagan had zero respect, rather than mere disrespect.

This is all such trivial nonsense.

I pointed out that the president is not required to salute. However, if he is going to, do it with respect.

I don't think it's disrespectful, just not very respectful. Not a big deal to me but I'm not military.

Much ado about nothing, IMO. We have far more important things to worry about in this country.

So....most importantly...can we expect a SNL version of this? Say, the POTUS getting off a helicopter with a powder donut and a latte. IDK, Gerald Ford probably didn't salute because apparently he was always tripping over something and probably grabbing for the handrail. Ideas for a sketch anyone?

Interesting read and even more interesting picture of Bush

Don't care for Bush's "dog carrying salute" either, both disrespectful to me. So, are we saying "your guy did it too" here and that makes it okay, or what?
