I saw a bunch of people complaining about this "latte salute" by the POTUS in the following video

I have no military background, and I have no idea how big a deal this is so I am asking.

 

I'd be particularly interested in the opinions of any veterans in the group.

I voted that it isn't ideal as he will likely be raked over the coals for it. He should have moved the latte to his left hand and properly saluted. However, it's not as big of a deal as it will be portrayed to be.

I think its kinda a big deal, shows his disrespect for the office he represents.

I hope Leatherneck will reply. While he admits his conservative ways, I think most of the liberals on her would agree he is pretty fair.

Disrespectful in my view. He can put them in harms way, which they would gladly and proudly accept. The least he could do is show a bit of respect for the uniform and their honorable service. I don't think he is required to salute, but since he did, he should have at least made a respectful attempt.

I lean towards clueless. For me disrespectful has to have intent. Clueless is clueless.

Egotistical, clueless. Yes, I do think that. I don't think he intentionally meant to disrespect anyone with his salute. I do think he is not tuned in enough to know why. It'd be completely different if he had a "screw that, I'm not saluting" attitude. I think he has walked on and off of planes and helicopters so much that he takes it for granted that he has this military presence at all times. I bet the only time he salutes is when he knows cameras are on him when he gets off of those planes and helicopters.

 

He needs some better PR folks around him.

 

 

I swear I missed out on a lucrative Public Relations firm calling. Celebrities, athletes and politicians are horrible in public relations these days. I'd make a killing.

With all due respect PP, he's our President, he shouldn't be clueless. I'll call it a lapse of judgement and extend him a Mulligan.

I mentioned being clueless but as you said in the bolded, lazy could also be it.
