Way #1: Goodell saw the video inside the elevator when making a decision on Ray Rice's punishment and only gave him a two game suspension. If this is the case Goodell needs to be fired plain and simple.

Way #2: Goodell did not see the video until TMZ posted it like he claims. If this is true it is gross negligence on the part of Goodell and the NFL. When you investigate you get all the evidence. In this case the most important piece of evidence was the video inside the elevator. Any trained investigator that did not gather and review the video inside the elevator should be fired immediately.

So either way Goodell should be fired.

Does anyone disagree? And if so why?

#1) Definitely Fired!

#2) I'd fire the Head of Security for the NFL, it is there job to get this information to the League. This would be the guy that lead the investigation into Bounty-Gate and other misbehavior by players. IMO asking the right questions and knowing what to ask falls on him, not Goodell in scenario #2

Head of Security is Former Commissioner of Pennsylvania State Police, he should be a trained investigator and know what to look for.

Good ell should have been fired long ago. This incident is just the latest of many gaffs during his tenure.

The tape fiasco with the Patriots.

The handing out punishment for some for off field incidents before being convicted or found guilty and just the opposite with others.

The no set punishment for anything it seems, just how he feels at the time.

The Pro Bowl fiasco

The wanting regular season games in Europe where Europe couldn't even support EFL. That isn't fire able per say but does show true ignorance.

Then this incident where he is lying big time just to protect the league and in top of it he comes out with an ignorant statement today saying any domestic violence incident caught in tape will be dealt with the harshest punishment. WHAT? So it's alright as long as it isn't on video tape?

Then in an interview today a reporter asked him if he needed to see the tape yesterday to change the punishment and he said no, he didn't need to see it....Then why didn't you make it that severe in Feb????

I swear for being a lawyer he is one stupid ignorant man.

He should be fired. He's either covering up the situation or he was too inept to properly investigate it and just wanted it to go away. He should not survive this.

He has investigators on the payroll that are experienced and paid to do that kind of thing. I'd fire them first!

A spokesman for the New Jersey state attorney general responded to questions about why the video was not released to the NFL.

"It's grand jury material. It would have been improper -- in fact, illegal -- for the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office to provide it to an outside/private/non law-enforcement entity," Paul Loriquet said, according to ABC News.

The problem is this, someone saw the video and told NFL sources what was in it. Mortensen with ESPN reported months ago that he heard from a source that said the NFL did see the video and also months ago described EXACTLY what was in the video, that Ray pinched her and she hit her head on the railing inside the elevator as she was knocked out.

Now if they didn't see it then how in the heck did they know exactly what the video showed?

Sorry I'm not buying the police thing. Sounds as if NFL is greasing some

palms if you ask me. Covering their tracks.

Also They ended up not filing any charges so why would the police have to keep video? Charges were dropped.

Sorry not buying it. No reason to hold the tapes and refuse to

Release

Them

When they weren't being used for any criminal case.

Not necessarily a big fan of Roger, but...

if it happened in Way #1, then yes, he probably should be gone. Like Pete Rose and Jim Tressel, it's not always so much the act itself, as it is covering it up. And in the particular case, it only makes things much, much worse.

However, if it happened in Way #2...then I'd give him a small benefit of the doubt. I mean, if the video was so readily available, why is it just now that TMZ is releasing it? I'd assume if they had it before, they wouldn't have waited until now to show it. I think there's a small sliver of truth that the footage was considered evidence, and as such, was held onto very tightly by authorities. Sure, somebody may have viewed it, and spoken to Mort anonymously about what they saw...but, they couldn't get an actual copy to them. Otherwise, don't you think ESPN would've shown it by now? Which means, for Goodell to consider what went on in the elevator (without actually seeing it) he'd basically have to rely on hearsay. I think any of us would want to be suspended from our job indefinitely just based on hearsay. (Please note, this does NOT mean that I am in agreement with the two game suspension he initially gave, based upon the footage seen outside the elevator.)

And #3, the counterpoint, is Goodell and the NFL did not and were not allowed to see the video because it was evidence in an investigation.

The reason TMZ just now released it - no one had access to the video except the police till now.

I'm just not fetching that one. I feel certain that the NFL/Goddell saw it months ago and hoped it would go away.

Why? Why would they do that? It makes zero sense to me.

I thought the prosecutor in New Jersey confirmed today that they could not release the video to anyone, including the NFL, until the case against Rice was closed.

The case was closed shortly after it opened. She didn't press charges. Not a legit cop-out for the league. They saw this video months ago.

For the bolded, it's the corporate way, and the NFL is as corporate as it gets. Cover it up, and use the force of your money and lawyers to keep it quiet and hope that it goes away. Just like in politics: It's all about establishing plausible deniability.
