They have one of the best RBs in the state in Michael Nero and they currently have bragging rights over the current #1 team in 6A as they defeated Male last time they saw them. You can act like Manual isn't any good or not a state power but being ranked #5 in the state in 6A behind the other three teams that are in your district isn't anything to be ashamed of.

They have two DI-A offered and committed players on their D (a DE and CB)...they have two more DI-A offered players on their offense (a WR and a RB)...you may scoff at them, but personnel wise, you're going to have a hard time convincing people that they are anything but a loaded football team this year.

Bowling Green has allowed 40 points or more in a game 32 times in their 93 seasons of playing football, comprising just over 3% of their games.

 

30 is a bit more prevalent, with an occurrence in each of the past two seasons, both actually BG wins (obviously). They beat St. X 38-31 in 2012 and McCallie School (TN) 40-36 last season. They actually hold a 7-6 record when allowing 30 and over in the last 20 years, after losing the first 84 occurrences.

Folks, don't let LEX be our spoke person as a Lex Cath fans. Believe me we are not all like him/ her. Bottom line is that Lex Cath fans are excited to play BG this weekend and a challenge to really see how this year Knights version of fast phase tempo. BG is always going to be BG. They are not 3X state champ for no reason. We welcome a great night of football and don't get me wrong, I would like to see Knights snap the game streak at 45... but if not I would love to see a very competitive game.

Both teams can score, this game comes down to defense, Purples win because of that, as I said before Catholic is a load short on defense, that struggled last year to stop people, gave up lots of points, i think their defensive will not be as good as last years because of losing a couple of good players and Letton to boot.

Have seen some plays from both games at WKU last week. Though my vote was already in here is how it looks.

 

Both defenses play similar styles with similar results against most HS teams. Mainly a 3-4, 3-5 with lots of speed on the edges and different looks. Both swarm to the ball and play 'to the whistle'. I think LexCath is doing that better this year and that helps make up for graduated players referenced at time. Seniors are key on both teams and seem to be coming out strong on both teams. LexCath had some trouble with passing and speedy teams last year, especially the two opening games. But they settled in after that and did well until the semi-final game. Neither teams defense were pushed hard last week. BG probably still gets the edge in defense though.

 

Now the offenses. BG is definitely less dynamic than last year. 'Less dynamic' does NOT mean not good at all, But certainly BG is toned down a bit. Running back - #6 - looks good. Passing game is certainly not were it was last year at same time, but that has to be expected and one game for a mostly new squad can make a difference. LexCath had two things going for it coming into the season - Ryan and a strong o-line. The question mark was supporting cast since it was all new. The running back area is more than fine with Jaylen Jones and the wide-outs seem to have stepped up to fill some big shoes (literally in the case of Letton). So LexCath O looked impressive last week and should have the edge this week.

 

So I am going 28-21 LexCath. The defenses will not likely let this get into a shoot out. Both offenses will have to execute and keep errors down to a raw minimum. Both teams like to put in the air and everyone knows that 2 of the 3 things that can happen on a pass play are bad. A inopportune pick or stripped ball at a key point in the game may make the difference. It should be an exciting game. I would encourage anyone who can to attend this game. It should be fun.

I remember when Trinity had its series with Bowling Green. Points were very hard to come by for Trinity. I don't know who is going to win but I think it will be a relatively low scoring affair.

This is the first of 5 losses I have predicted for BG... Should be a tough defensive game that ends in a Purple loss due to lack of talent. Purples have 1, maybe 2 D1 prospects on their entire team of which are very young. Lex Cath has 4 for sure and possibly more. BG will keep it competitive due to coaching and their system, but in the end the talent of Lex Cath wins out....
