The Cov Diocese is short on money (hence the reason most of the Schools and Churches have to do there own fund raising to build and get non essential items) this is due to some lawsuits they had

Yes all churchs collect money. what they do and do not get spend on is my issue. So where is the ironton place. sounds like it might be a good trip

Ironton is in Ohio, right across the river from Ashland/ Russell. They are traditionally a top team in their class. Their former coach "Bob Lutz" still holds the most victories in Ohio football.

Lawsuits for what? This thread may never end.

NewCath got back after 11:00 Friday night and you want them to drive back down to Ashland on Saturday on the HOPES the field would be playable? You have to be kidding.

Not kidding at all. These are 17 year old kids, they ate very adaptable. Wouldn't that have been better than not playing at all? My guess is the kids would have wanted to play.

But I thought the Bishop controls the money? Have also read that certain schools are given more from the bishop than others?

It seems like no one knows what's going on, within their own school to say the least. But apparently the Diocese controls mostly everything, but there isn't a straight explaination as to what they control or how much control they have.

You have confused this. You asked why NewCath doesn't have a field. I told you bc the Bishop isn't going to fund it. NewCath is in year 5 of a major fund raising campaign and a field was part of Phase 5. That is the only way NewCath will ever get one. Once upon a time the Diocese owned the land at the bottom of the hill where NewCath is located. It would have been an ideal location for a complex. The Diocese sold it. All Diocese funded renovations so far have gone to St Henry and their new school. On top of that there are a lot more Catholic grade schools in Kenton and Boone with a LOT more parishioners and money. As a result, the Bishop invests more there.

As for athletics, NewCath keeps the gate and concessions minus rent at Newport and then all of it during basketball.

How about Scott - NCC on October 3rd? Both of their games were cancelled this past weekend and both have open dates on Oct. 3rd.

Holy Cross has an off campus practice field that can host JV and Frosh and Middle schools games by using a portable clock that sits in a truck but they have to rent a field for Varsity games.

Pretty sure a booster donated the land.

The Holy Cross "practice" field is really part of complex in Covington. A great deal of the money was donated by the Farris family who are supporters of many philanthropic activities. The complex is called the "Eva G. Farris Complex". Oakley and Eva support numerous needs including projects at Northern Kentucky University and Thomas More. They love the Covington Community and that is why they supported the Holy Cross Complex. The complex has a very nice soccer field and track. Next to soccer/track field is the football field. The football field is regulation and has permanent score board. I not 100% sure but I think they are waiting to see what happens with the mobile home park before deciding if the football field can be made into a true high school facility. You currently have to wind your way through old neighborhood streets to get back to the complex. It would be a nightmare for a high school crowd.

Here is link to map of field.

Here is a little article about the Farris family.

Like all Catholic Diocese in the US the Diocese of Covington has had to deal with the priest as sexual predator issue.

As far as funding look at it this way. The money the Catholic schools make is their own. Such as tuition money, book fees, athletic gates, etc. This is how they operate their funds. However, the Diocese (ie the Bishop) controls any additional support money that can be used to build additions, new buildings, etc. The diocese also gives each Catholic school money for salaries for employees but not sure how the percentage works for that.

Bottom line NCC would have had to rent the field at Newport for Sat. and did not or could not. Not sure which answer is correct.

I spit out my coffee just now laughing that this is still going and 14 pages WOW

Maybe NCC and SK can find a neutral site to play the "cancellation bowl" - but not in Ashland because it's too far, and not in Louisville because it's completely unsafe and scary.

I like the idea of NCC v Scott as a substitute game if they both share the same bye week. Both lost games to the weekend weather and this would be a good matchup. However, that bye week usually comes around at just about the right time to give aching bodies an extra week to heal.

This thread has long since strayed from the intended course. It's time to move on. ;)
