Come on down. It will be a great game and atmosphere that I believe will be second to none. There was a lot of emotion coming in to the game against NCC. There is even more now that the game wasn't played and now Raceland is the home opener.

The boys were sitting at the middle school. They in fact arrived at the middle school at 4:50. The parents buses were pulling into the stadium when they found out the game was cancelled. That's about 6:15 or so. So they were in fact at the stadium for a couple hrs before learning there would be no game. They were told it could take up to 4 hrs to get the field ready.

 

 

4;50 to 6:15 is not 2 hours, nor is it several hours. That is a fact.

What all is that field used for? Is it a large multisport facility? Im not from the area, hence the questions that would be obvious to people in Newport. Another thing I don't get, is that I understand Newport owns the stadium, but if they have a working relationship with NCC to allow them to use it, why does it seem like it takes an act of God to make that happen? At least that's the way it has appeares when Ashland offered to drive to Newport.

 

The field in question is used by Newport high school, Newcath, Newports youth league as well as NKY river monsters semi pro team. It isn't like NCC can just make a phone call and get the keys handed to them!

I understand. Sounds like they either need more keys or more fields though, since so many teams are using one entity.

 

If it normally works out fine it seems like the simple and cheapest solution would to be to give each a set of keys. If the field is available, then they could use their keys and personel to open the stadium and play a game.

Once again NCC pays to rent the field. They can't practice on it, they can't use the Newport locker room. There are youth leagues that use it, there are semi-pro teams that use it. There is Newport Band practice on it. There is Newport softball practice on it. There are soccer games on it. It is not as simple of giving someone a set of keys.

Insane. Sounds like NCC needs their own facilities then. If they can't practice and use the locker rooms what can they do? Other than ask if they can give Newport money so they can play a game on it. It seems like over time it would be cheaper and more convienient to just build their own facility.

Ok. I'm totally ignorant about anything Catholic. So exactly what is the Covington Diocese, and how many schools in NKY are under the Catholic Diocese? Does the Parish donate any money to the schools or is it pretty much the more students a school has the more money they have?

Diocese of Covington has umpteen grade schools and lets see high schools: Villa, Latin, Notre Dame, CovCath, St. Henry. NCC, Holy Cross, Bishop Brossart, St. Patricks.

 

Sure the more students you have the more money in theory, but you would also need more teachers etc.

 

Extra activities (like Sports) are usually paid for thru numerous fund raising efforts (like Fruit Sales, Golf Outings, Stags, Hall of Fame nights, or receiving a portion of proceeds from a restaurant on a certain night).

So is Covington Catholic the richest school in the area? Is NCC not having their own facilities simply a money issue? Do their freshman and JV teams also play at Newport?
