When Ncc is 0-4, it will be easier to see why this game wasn't played.

There are several obvious reasons Ashland wanted to play this game. Money is number one, I am sure. This game was expected to be a sell out and would have meant somewhere in the neighborhood of $15k to $20k to the school(my guess completely). The reopening of the new stadium happens only once every 75 years or so, this it was very important to the community and a much anticipated event. Many, many people had come in from out of town for the event. The "significant" donor to which you may be referring is probably John Koskinen, the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service. Mr Koskinen, is an Ashland graduate and had made a special trip to Ashland from DC to be here for the weekend. It's very unfortunate for everyone that the game couldn't be played. I personally feel NCC should have made the trip back for Saturday. I can't imagine that having much of a negative effect on the play of 16-18 years. Seems like there was a lot of upside to attempt to play Saturday and no true downside.

"however they were NOT guaranteed the field would be dry enough to play. With that, NewCath was not going to drive another 5 plus hours round trip for another possible cancellation".

The no Sunday thing is a cop out. That might be a rule, but it's not enforced countless times a year. Also every Catholic grade school in N. ky has basketball tournaments on Sundays. I've been stuck watching them instead of Nfl games. There's All A, 9th region, baseball and softball. C'mon Ncc.

What in the hell does this have to do with anything.

BTW, when it comes to "Tournaments" there is a difference in the rule.

Same Diocese. Same rules.

It is honestly comical to hear all this complaining about a two hour trip for a game. Give me all the five hour comments you want, I travel to Cincinnati and I make it under two hours every time. Plus, teams around the state travel just as far, and much further, three, four, or five times a season. Heck, Raceland has played district teams that are two hours away on a yearly basis. The complainers really need to get out more and see the state they live in and not be a hermit in NKY.

Kids in Mexico have to walk to school and sometimes cross a river.

Fortunately, one of the advantages of living in NKY is that we don't have to.

Like I said before, I'm getting a headache , I'm done :isurrender:

Yea, those bad Ashland people made NCC schedule that home/away game. We will have to talk to those bad people and tell them to not do that anymore.

If HS FB teams are making 15-20k per home game, I am in the wrong business.

I imagine this game would have pulled at least $20k, probably more. If the stadium sells out your looking at around $25k just from ticket sales. I'm not sure what NCC's cut would have been, but I know Ashland has a history of paying the visiting team well.

You missed the point. We don't like long bus rides. Fortunately, we don't have to make them like some other schools do. If NCC wanted to do it once but not twice I've got no issue with that. NCC can find better teams in Cincinnati that are 30 minutes away. If there's not a relationship between the schools I don't see why they would even schedule a team 2 to 2.5 hours away. Not worth the hassle.

I'm sure they couldn't guarantee anything on Friday night, but sure they would have had ample time on Saturday to determine whether the field would be playable before NCC would have to travel.

Didn't miss the point, you said they "didn't have to travel", but they scheduled the game. That's my point.

And, to everyone else, the complaining is the complaining. Yea, it's two, or three, or four hours, what ever people want to complain about. But, it was scheduled by Ashland AND NCC. They knew where Ashland was, or at least I hope they knew where it was.

Now, there is talk about replacing this game with Johnson Central, the NCC folks better get a map out, because Johnson Central is a lot further then Ashland. A second trip to Ashland will look like a cake walk.

Why are you having such a tough time w this? NOBODY complained about the original trip. It is turning around and doing it the very next day w the expenses and needless travel involved.

I'm just telling you how other people are reading it. I read for over a day and didn't say a word, go back and count how many times "5 hour trip" was posted in this thread. Yes, we all know it's trip from NCC to Ashland. It just sounds like people were shocked at how long it took.

But, don't let me stop you, keep on telling us about road trips. We want to hear about your plight.

I loved making the 2 hour trips to play Lexington schools back when I played. I laugh at the complaint of making a long trip to play a football game. Perhaps the NKY schools should drop out of the KHSAA so they don't have to make a long trip to Lexington for the Sweet 16 every year. I'm sure the Regional Runner up is usually ecstatic they don't have to make that trip.

I'm just saying that everyone on BGP from around the state are reading the complaints and thinking, "what a bunch of cry babies". If you're good with that, by all means, keep on keeping on.

For the record on your thoughts:

1. A hollow, passive aggressive way of complaining.

2. Yea, tour busses are terrible (sarcasm)

3. Yea, complaining about the trip is complaining about the trip. Good Lord, get out some.

Whatever floats your boat. I couldn't care if people on here see us as complainers. Also don't care about people around the state. Teams can only worry about themselves. As to the above, you answered my points like a tempestuous teenager. This has become like discussing things with my wife. If I don't agree, then I am either wrong or complaining. There wasn't an attempt to be rational in the thought process.
