Looks like it would have playable to me, I figured it would. Putnam has always drained well and they added more drains. The issue was that the city's system backed up. I imagine once the city system was back to normal it drained pretty quick. I don't doubt that its still wet, but I imagine it would be playable by 7:30.

 

Is there any possibility that the back-up from the city system could have contained "raw sewage :poop:", I could see this as being one hell of a big problem. :idunno:

I'm pretty sure he was talking about the storm drain system which is not in anyway connected to the sewer system.

Just got the "low-down".

 

1. Ashland did offer to pay the NewCath teams expense to travel to Ashland on Saturday, however they were NOT guaranteed the field would be dry enough to play. With that, NewCath was not going to drive another 5 plus hours round trip for another possible cancellation.

3. Playing on Sunday, at anytime, is not an option...per the Diocese of Covington and the NewCath Administration.

I'm shocked that there is 7 pages on back and forth written about a game that wasn't played and prob won't be played unfortunately. Makes you wonder if it had of been played would there be this much talk about the game itself prob not?? Let's on move on, Ashland should be preparing for Raceland and NCC is now preparing for Cooper.

There are several obvious reasons Ashland wanted to play this game. Money is number one, I am sure. This game was expected to be a sell out and would have meant somewhere in the neighborhood of $15k to $20k to the school(my guess completely). The reopening of the new stadium happens only once every 75 years or so, this it was very important to the community and a much anticipated event. Many, many people had come in from out of town for the event. The "significant" donor to which you may be referring is probably John Koskinen, the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service. Mr Koskinen, is an Ashland graduate and had made a special trip to Ashland from DC to be here for the weekend. It's very unfortunate for everyone that the game couldn't be played. I personally feel NCC should have made the trip back for Saturday. I can't imagine that having much of a negative effect on the play of 16-18 years. Seems like there was a lot of upside to attempt to play Saturday and no true downside.

There were a lot of former Tomcats in town for the opening of the new Putnam. Along with opening ceromonies and the dedication of Herb Conleys statue. The donor you are thinking of is likely John Koskinen, former Tomcat who was appointed to commissioner of the IRS last year during Obama's overhaul of the system.

 

I imagine the main reason they wanted the game played was because they knew if the game wasn't played this weekend then a shortened season is a real possibility. Ashlands open date is the final week of the season, so its not going to be easy to find a replacement opponent.

Not so fast. They may not be connected but it seems in storms like they had the systems can mix. Are you going to tell me there wasn't a sewage manhole cover anywhere where the water was flooding and as I hear it knee deep? This is one place they mix during flooding.

I can't answer whether the systems mixed together or not, but I imagine it is unlikely. Even if it does happen I would imagine its extremely rare and the amount of sewage mixed in vs the amount of water would likely be minute. That said, I didn't see any poo floating around at the stadium or anywhere around town.

I say this honestl asking. Have you ever rode 3 hours on a bus for a game? Charter bus or not, you have to drive 3 hours back home after the game. It stinks. I personally hated it. Then you have to turn around the very next day and do it? No thanks.

It is honestly comical to hear all this complaining about a two hour trip for a game. Give me all the five hour comments you want, I travel to Cincinnati and I make it under two hours every time. Plus, teams around the state travel just as far, and much further, three, four, or five times a season. Heck, Raceland has played district teams that are two hours away on a yearly basis. The complainers really need to get out more and see the state they live in and not be a hermit in NKY.

I'm just saying that everyone on BGP from around the state are reading the complaints and thinking, "what a bunch of cry babies". If you're good with that, by all means, keep on keeping on.

The no Sunday thing is a cop out. That might be a rule, but it's not enforced countless times a year. Also every Catholic grade school in N. ky has basketball tournaments on Sundays. I've been stuck watching them instead of Nfl games. There's All A, 9th region, baseball and softball. C'mon Ncc.
