I wish they played at Newport tonight. It would give me enough reason to skip a wedding.

If Ncc did turn down a home game, then the hypothesis that Ncc is afraid to play may have some

^^

The AD for NCC asked the principal if they could play on Sunday, not Saturday. This was not authorized by the principal, therefore that's why they said no to the Sunday game. It had absolutely nothing to do with fear.

Is the new principal anti-sports? I thought the Diocesan rule for Sundays was after 1pm was fine. There are countless little league basketball games at Catholic schools on Sundays. The 9th regional basketball is usually on a Sunday. No reason it couldn't be played Saturday night either if Ashland was willing.

Remember it is Newport's field and they control it. Not NCC.

True. It could have been a field issue too.

The point is NCC has no right to agree to anything regarding the use of the field or the schedule of the field. So they could not agree to any rescheduled game without consulting Newport and getting approval from Newport who would have to operate the facility.

I'm sure that's just a couple phone calls or emails. Though, they could be told no.

I am sitting in an Ashland barbershop and an Ashland player is here. Ashland did indeed make the offer to drive to NewCath today and play but NewCath declined. Seems like Bosshog's post was accurate.

If this is true I am shocked NCC wouldnt have jumped all over the opportunity for an extra home game, given the fact that their OOD schedule is brutal.

Also if Ashland did indeed offer to drive to Newport to play the game today I would be shocked if the series is renewed, unless NCC had a good reason to decline the offer. Which would be a shame, I enjoy having a tradition rich NKY teal on our schedule.

Like a few have said, NewCath is at the mercy of Newport when it comes to the field. It's quiet possible something is going on at Newport Stadium today. Also, the temperature could have played a part in this as well. Since 1:00 it's been hovering around 90 degrees with a heat index of 98, who knows what that translates to the field temp.....Newport Stadium is artificial turf.

So asking the obvious question here....I assume this means no reschedule has been determined at this point?

Yeah if the stadium isnt accessible to them today that would make sense as to why the game isn't being played this weekend. I just figured that since Newport is playing at Mason County the field would be available. But I'm not familiar with the situation or know whom else uses the field from time to time.

By no means am I upset with NCC, nor do I think they don't want to play the game. Given their schedule they aren't afraid to play anyone. I just the game could have been played and if Ashland was willing to travel up there, it seems that given the number of fields in that area with a little effort and cooperation from other schools the game could have been played tonight.

But it is what it is, no one can control the weather. The crazy thing is that Putnam has always drained excellent in the past. Russell's field wasn't playable a few years back due to heavy rains and Ashland was able to offer up Putnam to them for a playoff game against Mason County. An article in the paper said most of the water came from nearby storm drains that were so backed up it pushed water out of the larger city storm drains into Putnams drains, pushing the water back onto the field.

It obviously would be below the index at 7:30pm. Im saying now that Ncc white flagged the game.

The game will not be rescheduled. Neither team shares an open date. I'm not sure when NCC's open date is but hopefully they can find a game. Ashland shares an open date with Henry Clay, maybe Mark Swift can work out something with them.
