Those stories have been reported previously.

 

1) If the guy puts the toy gun down instead of waving it around he doesn't get shot...exact same thing would have happened if he was black, white, blue or green.

 

2) Man fought with police and was detained with a neck restraint, not a choke hold. If he was being choked he couldn't say "I can't breathe". But if he doesn't refuse the officers commands when they go to arrest him it never escalates to the point that his other health conditions unfortunately killed him. In my condition if I struggled with someone like that I'd probably die as well without ever being "Choked"

 

3) Horrible, I have no idea what happened on this. I don't know why they perceived him as a threat. The officer was indicted on manslaughter charges.

The Deadspin article listed cases from 2014. How were those covered in the article from 2010???

 

Didn't say they were covered but since you bring it up.

 

One involved a guy in WalMart with a BB gun. One was the guy that was resisting arrest and died from the choke hold. The last one the officer has been charged.

 

So in 2014 there have been 2 cases of cops shooting unarmed black men. In one case the guy had a BB gun which the cops thought was a real gun. The other the cop has been charged.

Chief says the officer was hit in the face by the victim.

Interesting dialogue.

 

I will refer back to my earlier post regarding the number of black youths being killed on our streets and predominantly by other blacks. Dead is dead in my book. I guess to agree with PP92, that topic is not sensational enough, or there is no one to blame or no money to be made out of black on black crime which tragically kills MANY more every year than this topic.

 

I am just wondering why some can't save any passion for that topic?

Maybe in 2025 when white people become the minorities you'll adapt appropriately and learn the mindset of a minority.

All I know is I don't give cops a reason to shoot. I doubt many cops want to kill someone regardless of race.

When I am the minority I will be to old to fight and in diapers. My mind won't adapt because my kids by that time will have driven me insane. I might even think I'm black at that time.

If were are looking at trends then the answer is no. Do you believe more black men are getting shot today than 10 years ago? I'm on the side if the cop shot an unarmed man with his hands in air the cop needs to be in jail for life. I'm probably one of the biggest critics of cops abusing power on this site. But you are painting a picture of an epidemic and I can't find any stats to show a rise in the crime you are angry about.

 

I agree even one murder is one to much. But how do you eliminate human error when cops are human. But I 100% believe how cops currently use force on every citizen needs to be revisited because right now the badge has to much power.

Statistics should only be used to support your argument if they're accurate and make sense. 5% is egregious.

 

That being said, it doesn't sound like this was justified in any way. If he was truly holding his hands up after being shot and saying enough was enough, he wouldn't run and he wasn't armed, and he was shot again...that's murder.

 

I don't know that the initial shots were uncalled for if he did reach for the officers gun and punch the officer and turn and run, but a man standing arms in the air being shot is no doubt uncalled for any way it is spun.
