August 13, 201412 yr I was watching Cops last night. A guy and a girl were fighting the cops. The guy grabbed a female cop from behind. After he did that other cops grabbed the dude body slammed him and 3 male cops had the dude pinned down, subdued and were cuffin him. The female cop he grabbed came over and put the taser on him and was yelling at him, "don't you ever grab me from behind again!!!!" Not sure if she was in her rights to tase him at that point but I knew it was coming. I don't like when force is used as retaliation in a arrest. For example if a suspect sucker punches a cop then the other cops have him restrained. It does not give the cop the right to then hit him back. That mentality needs to change. But I may make an exception for a male attacking a female cop. I hold special rules for men who want to hit women.
August 13, 201412 yr Not to pull a mtnref here, BUT: Why is it not ok to blow out of proportion the number of bad cops vs. good, but perfectly acceptable to paint all people on welfare as lazy, shiftless, working the system....etc. Hey I do both :laugh:
August 13, 201412 yr But he obviously didn't succeed in getting the gun from the cop--otherwise he wouldn't have been shot with it. It also sounds like he was no longer in contact with the officer when he was shot the 2nd through however many times he was shot. If eyewitness accounts are true at least one of those shots came with him curled in the fetal position on the ground after already being shot multiple times. Agreed. However lets not pretend trying to steal a cop's gun off of him (allegedly) in a fight means this guys most serious crime at the time was petty shoplifting.

I agree, if this part of the story was true, than I reckon that the result would have been much different had the shoplifter gained control of the gun. Perhaps the officer would be dead and this story does not make national news.
August 13, 201412 yr Are we even sure that he was shoplifting? The stories that I've read haven't been clear on if that were the case or if the altercation started when he and his friend were ordered to get on the sidewalk.

The jury is still out on whether the officer who did the shooting was simply bad at his job or was a racist who was bad at his job.[/quote'] I think one reason for the outrage, at least why it may have gotten this big, in MO was this was just a couple of weeks after the chokehold death by an officer. More than a couple of times I have seen police in Clifton near UC handcuff black youth for no real reason. But I do believe that some cops are either scared or their adrenaline take control and one bad decision leads to another and then you have a situation that might have been avoided if it were another cop who was in the same situation. How is the training for officers today concerning such things as urban situations, civil unrest and rioting?

They could fly small drones in to get coverage. BTW, there were a few videos from drones I watched a few days ago from civil unrest in Turkey and I think Bangkok. Interesting videos
August 14, 201412 yr If one unarmed black person is unjustly shot by a cop it's an issue. That cop should be dealt with as any other citizen would. As far as an upward trend of police killing unarmed blacks, you haven't shown any evidence of that. Here's a database that has all officer involved shooting just in LA since 2000. Victims since Jan. 2000 killed by a police officer - Los Angeles Murders and Homicides - The Homicide Report - Los Angeles Times It isn't implying that all persons shot by the police are victims. It includes all homicides--officer involved shootings are just one of the filters.

August 14, 201412 yr Two journalists arrested in Ferguson by what is essentially a military. I don't know how anyone who claims to care about the Constitution or a free republic isn't mortified by what's going on there.

Police entered the restaurant and told patrons there to leave, the reporters wrote on Twitter after their release. The police then asked Lowery and Reilly for their identification and, according to the reporters, arrested them because they weren't packing their bags fast enough.
