I hope that the officers that are choosing to disregard the Constitution are not only fired, but prosecuted as well. Totally ridiculous behavior. The arrests should begin with the police chief: Ferguson chief tells me @WesleyLowery and @ryanjreilly's arresters were "probably somebody who didn't know better." He's got officers running around in riot gear, with tear gas, assault weapons and armored vehicles who don't know better than to falsely arrest journalists? Ridiculous. Thank goodness these officers that "don't know better" haven't killed any innocent people--YET.

August 14, 201412 yr All instances like this are sad and alarming, though I do wonder how these type of things seem to happen. What is shocking though, is that unarmed black youth and men are killed while people like James Holmes(aurora shooting) are rightfully detained.

The problem with these militarized tactics isn’t that officers are better protected, safer, or more effective in their duties, but this mindset and these tactics have in many cases replaced traditional police work with often destructive results. The “militarization” of police is problematic in that it implies that the public is a battle zone, citizens are enemies, the police are soldiers at war, and thus anything is allowable. This is not how things work in a free society. This is why people are weary of departments buying drones or armored vehicles, SWAT raids increasing 1500% in two decades, police in military garb sent to monitor protests, martial law, etc. Police are citizens and citizens are not enemies.
