That's not the point...... The point is far too many people call out for change while doing little to provide opportunities or answer to said problem. I'm asking someone how I can help and willing to lend my time to do so. That is a legitimate offer, still waiting on a response though.

I can't speak for HB but I've seen him say before that police actions appeared to looks wrong. Again until your in that moment it's hard to tell. This is why SOOOOOO many agencies are now wearing camera's. I think you'll see this policy go nation wide before long. I'm sure there is plenty of grant money out there for it.

Gallatin County, Ky, (pop. 8,589) has a Humvee, and probably a whole bunch of other heavy artillery that they don't need. Ridiculously unnecessary. Just more of the silly aftereffects of 9/11 fear, and to a certain degree that shootout in LA years ago when those guys had the cops outgunned. Like terrorists are going to bother with a county that size. Unless, of course, the meth dealers and cookers in my home county have become equally militarized, which is definitely not the case.

But he obviously didn't succeed in getting the gun from the cop--otherwise he wouldn't have been shot with it. It also sounds like he was no longer in contact with the officer when he was shot the 2nd through however many times he was shot. If eyewitness accounts are true at least one of those shots came with him curled in the fetal position on the ground after already being shot multiple times.

 

I'm simply posing a question because I don't know. What if the officer lost his duty weapon and shot him with his backup weapon while the suspect was on the ground? Would you wait to see if he was reaching for your gun before you shot a second time?

Believe me man I get what you're saying but sadly, for the most part you are misinformed. Not too many PD's roll around with auto guns, and the vehicles are usually GIVEN to the departments(no cash transaction) so again that's not really a political thing.

The sad thing is so many officers do wonderful things for their communities and no one ever reports on it and it never goes viral. 1,000 good deeds, volunteering of those officers to take poor children Christmas shopping, fishing, coming to school on their own time to eat lunch with a kid who is bullied. Giving scared kids in violent homes stuffed animals, etc. No one cares about that stuff. "Just part of the job". Hundreds of thousands police officers out there. There's a lot of good people in this profession that open their hearts and homes to the people who need them.

 

Sensational journalists don't care. Conspiracy theorists don't care. All anyone cares about is singling out the few dirty cops out there. A few officers make bad shoots, then it's all about all cops are blood thirsty. A VERY small amount of departments have SWAT teams. The majority of which seldom get used and I mean 1 or 2 times a year. A few agencies in larger areas deploy them, then it becomes ALL police are becoming "militarized". I spend most every day responding to drunks, theft calls and arguments. I don't see anything militaristic about talking a drunk person into going to bed, or searching for a missing kid or elderly people with dementia , or directing traffic , or talking to social services or any other thing you encounter. The job is unpredictable. It's hard. A constant tight wire act of having the vast majority of the public not liking you without ever knowing you. And then you have the parents who tell their kids "I'm gonna have him get you if you don't mind." No ma'am, you discipline your kid and be a parent so they grow up to be productive members of society. All those parents are doing are perpetuating the cycle of people not trusting police. The stickers and rubber band bracelets only go so far in trying to build a good police relationship with the kids.

 

Just frustrating that a lot of good officers who are wonderful, caring and sympathetic people and yes they are people are lumped in with an officer or officers hundreds of miles away. A few bad apples ruin it for everyone else...

According to most accounts he was shot once while in the vehicle. That would seem to indicate that the officer had his weapon at that point. All accounts that I have read said that all subsequent shots were fired with the victim's hands in the air or while he was lying on the ground.

Those are actually given to police because they have been decommissioned by the military. The only time I've seen them get rolled out is during a natural disaster. I'm sure some backwoods agencies figure "we got em, might as well play with em".

I don't like when force is used as retaliation in a arrest. For example if a suspect sucker punches a cop then the other cops have him restrained. It does not give the cop the right to then hit him back. That mentality needs to change.

 

But I may make an exception for a male attacking a female cop. I hold special rules for men who want to hit women.

 

That makes sense to me, what if it were your brother?
