August 5, 201412 yr I for one hope Andy Dalton gets every single penny in his contract, that means he becomes the stud the Bengals need. This is a win win for the Bengals, he stinks, toucan cut him loose in a few years, but if he wins, he will be worth what he is getting paid and the Bengals are wining.
August 5, 201412 yr As I have said all along Dalton would get signed before the season. It really isn't that difficult, there was just no way they wouldn't. Fans and writers really don't know the value the team puts on the players. The agents and GM's know where positions are slotted by both value and pay. Fiscal minded GM's control the cap that way. Really the only negotiations are guaranteed $$ and years. The Bengals will sign AJ and Burfict and they will get their value for their position. WRs make big $$, linebackers don't in NFL $$. Expect AJ to come in at the top 3 $$ and Burfict top 10-20. Burfict is setting up to make max $$ in next contract. AJ will get it while he can. Many wonder why the Bengals have so much cap space, well, they already know what they have to pay for the next 3-4 years and pretty much who they will pay. It just really isn't that complicated. Quality players like Hall and Whitworth are now losing value due to age, injuries, and depth on the roster at that position. They both would have to take a discount to stay when their time comes up. Some do, but most won't.
August 5, 201412 yr Honestly I think it's a great deal for the Bengals. When I started looking at particulars, I don't know how as a Bengals fan you can't absolutely love the deal. Let's say Andy Dalton improves and lead the Bengals to the Super Bowl (I won't even say win it) without his extension. He would have been way more expensive to sign then. $25 million over two years and hopefully he continues to get better and have more playoffs success. We could be talking in 5-6 years that this was a steal of a contract with where contracts for QBs might be heading.

Cowherd said on his radio show yesterday that if Brady was QB of the Bengals they would win the Super Bowl.
August 5, 201412 yr Cowherd said on his radio show yesterday that if Brady was QB of the Bengals they would win the Super Bowl. I'm sure Petyon Manning would too. But what does that have to do with anything?

August 5, 201412 yr I'm sure Petyon Manning would too. But what does that have to do with anything? My point is that if you are going to pay your QB $100 million it is time now to take the next step. The Bengals will not keep all this talent around him for too much longer. I like Dalton but the reality is this roster has a small window to do some damage.

I like Dalton but the reality is this roster has a small window to do some damage. Yes and no. I think the bengals window is a little bigger than we think. They should be able to extend both green and burfict. Already locked up geno and dunlap. So theirbig names will be locked up. They have done a great job building young talented depth too. Youth movement in secondary with drafting corners and going young at linebacker and depth at d line. Eifert to replace gresham after this year. Even the interior of o line is younger now. Next year I believe will be the year when o line like at tackle gets draftes early.
August 5, 201412 yr AJ McCarron is Andy Dalton 2.0. I like the pick (more so because of his ridiculously hot wife), but let's not act like he's some sure thing. Guy was a 5th round pick for a reason. And Brady was drafted in what round?
August 5, 201412 yr And Brady was drafted in what round? I'll take your one Brady and show you about 100 6th round QB's that were career backups and never started a game...
August 5, 201412 yr I'll take your one Brady and show you about 100 6th round QB's that were career backups and never started a game... For that matter, there's a number of QB's taken in the second round who never amounted to much more than a backup.
August 6, 201412 yr Next week will be a good one for the Daltons. 12 million on Monday, followed by 5 million on Thursday.

August 6, 201412 yr Red BB Gun has the oppty to upgrade based on his performance. I'd like nothing more than for him to develop into a .50 cal this season. Performance tells me he will gain .22 status and lose yet another first round playoff game. Turn into a desert eagle and prove me wrong AD...a playoff win will win me back and I'll publicly apologize if you win an AFC Championship. This is a big year for this team. Too many players need to put up and live on in the league or fade away based on their performance. And if you utterly fail enjoy the payday. Mrs. McCaron will be a welcome addition to the viewing public!
