Bell County Bobcats 2014 Football Preview

Recommended Posts

The Bell County Bobcats finished the 2013 season at 7-5 losing in the second round of the playoffs to Louisville Central 14-11. The Yellow Jackets have ended the Bobcats’ season the last 3 years. The Bobcats had a disappointing season, if you go by their record, but they started the season with a very young squad that gained momentum by the end of the end. The Bobcats graduated 7 seniors last season.

A majority of the Bobcat squad is returning this season including 9 starters on the offensive side of the ball. 3 year starting quarterback JR-Peyton Collett will lead the offense with 878 passing yards and 8 TDs. Also leading the charge will be leading rusher SR- Austin Caldwell with 815 yards rushing and 8 TDs despite missing 4 games due to injuries. Other returning players include Chase Woolum – JR running back, Corey Swanner – JR FB, Jacob Sutton – JR Offensive Line Center, Aaron Jenkins – SR Guard, Hunter Hurst – SR Tackle, Nathan Murray – JR Tackle, and Nathan Collett – SO Tight End.

On the defensive side, the Bobcats are returning 8 starters including leading tackler SR Justin Green with 111 tackles last season. Anchoring the line will be SR Devon Miller and SR Safety Hayden Gilbert. The Bobcats will play as many as 14 – 15 different players this season on defense.

The Bobcats also picked up senior transfer from Middlesboro, Cole Frazier, who will help out on both sides of the ball. Cole will see time at both the TE and LB positions.

The Bobcats have the exact same schedule as last season. They open up in Chattanooga with last season’s Class A State Runner Up in Tennessee, South Pittsburgh. They will then travel to Marion County in the Heartland Pigskin Classic where they will take on Washington County. Their first home game will be against Whitley County, and then travel to Middlesboro to meet their cross town rival in the City County Bowl. The next 2 games are at home against Knox Central and district opponent, Class 3A Runner Up, Wayne County. Case County will be the next district opponent on the road. Week 7 is a much needed bye week for the Bobcats before facing the district rival of Corbin away. The last home game of the regular season ends with McCreary Central, and the last week of regular season the Bobcats will travel to Harlan County for a neighboring county rivalry.

The Bobcats expectations are high on Log Mountain this season. It could be a season to remember. Could this be the team to represent the west this season? Only time will tell!

Good stuff Commander! :thumb:

9 offensive starters & 8 defensive starters returning seems like a recipe for success for a squad that was pretty solid last season. In terms of Regular Season W/L record, what do you think would be a realistic prognostication?
