The KHSAA is a joke, we have already proven that so I would guess the transfer will not be contested.

 

Public to Private is a little easier to get by with then public to public. Who is to say the kid isn't transferring to develop his Catholic education?

 

My point is, why treat him differently than kids who are ruled ineligible? Just because his family is top notch doesn't change a thing.

What if he was the captain of the Academic team?? Or he was the first chair Trumpet player, and a key piece in the Boone County Band?? Or the best hall monitor/teachers aid in the building?? Would anyone have issues with him transfering, or would everyone still be calling for him not to participate in those activities as well?? Kids transfer every year for various reasons. Only in sports, do we try to hold that against them. The other way to solve the problem is to just let the kids transfer and let them participate in sports like we do in every other activity.

I have never met this young man or his family, but if he isn't happy, then transfer somewhere where you feel will be the best fit for him and his family. There are rules in place you have to follow though. If the KHSAA doesn't want to enforce those rules, then so be it. We can't do anything about it. it's on them with no accountability. No the KHSAA doesn't have jurisdiction over clubs. And to be fair, band, chorus, etc., are actual classs with grades, so it's not really an apples to apples comparison. But still, I think the premise is somewhat the same. If you're a regular kid, you can transfer with no penalty. But athletes for some reason are treated differently.

Everybody keeps saying there are rules in place for transfers. If they follow the rules of the transfer and he is ruled eligible then why is it an issue? Kids that are ruled ineligible are done so for a reason. Kids that are ruled eligible are done so for a reason. People act like the KHSAA is supposed to rule every single transfer ineligible. The KHSAA's job isn't to rule every transfer ineligible. Their job is to make sure people are following the rules. I'd argue their job is to make sure every kid is eligible and if they don't transfer within the black and white of the rules then they are ruled ineligible.

Nothing does. It's actually one of CCH's own that is questioning his eligibility.

What makes athletics any different than any other school based club or activity? Nobody gets upset when Straight A Johnny, choral soloist decides School A has a better choral program than School B, and decides to transfer. But if Straight A Johnny plays football, it's a huge problem. I understand the fear that people have about recruiting and other potential cans of worms that could be opened by not having any rules. As a coach and parent, I've been upset by kids leaving, but in the end life goes on. And think about it, there are many more student non athletes than athletes, and there aren't exactly a ton of schools closing down because hordes of kids are transfering. Sure there'd likely be a few, if not many that would choose to go elsewhere. But so what?? Who exactly does that hurt?? What is gained by making a kid sit out a year?? I know as an adult, if a better opportunity comes my way, if it is what is best for me and my family I'm going to take it.

Then IMO that means that the KHSAA is doing their job and people need to take a step back and ease off of the kids, the schools and the KHSAA.

Athletes are treated differently because there is a sanctioning body that oversees all athletics in the state. There are people that complain now that St. X and Trinity have advantages that others do not, can you imagine what it would be like if kids could move freely from one school to another?

I'm going to guess that the biggest reason is to dissuade "recruiting".

 

I think if we were all honest with ourselves, we would recognize that in open enrollment areas, recruiting happens. Now it all depends on how you define "recruiting". But if I saw a kid coming up in middle school who had a choice of High Schools, I am probably going to give a pitch for the school I have a rooting interest in. In districts like Boone Co. it's more cut and dry but don't kid yourself into thinking that interested parents and alumni don't talk to kids parents about the pros and cons of schools and how to get around that system.

You are probably correct. I think everybody would love to know which rule or part of rule they met to become eligible. If it's a personal reason, then delete this thread. Other than that let's hear it. Not saying that you know. Speaking of KHSAA or BGP people in the know or even a CCH person.

That would be my guess as well. But you're right, it happens. And I can see where recruiting would be a big problem. But every school that holds any sports camp, or whose coach is involved with a youth sports program, is actively recruiting (albeit it's usually working to develop your kids and get them to stay). All in all, the transferring issue usually washes out in the end. Sometimes you win and get the start, sometimes you lose.
