While they may get some better athletes and have a deeper talent base, they still have to develop, train and coach the players they get. And really it seems like it's only Trinity and X that are the outliers and that's mostly because of their enrollment. You don't hear many people complaining about the 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5a private schools having a big advantage because of lack of boundaries.

They love to toss around the 2,000 or so numbers about Trinity or St. X when neither school has ever had anything close. The enrollments in 6A are a lot closer among the largest schools when actually looking at male enrollment numbers.

I get why an individual school would not want to.

 

I am asking why the KHSAA set one division up differently than the other 5. How is it justified?

 

Plain and simple it was done to appease those that have and continue to push for the private schools to have their own division.

Maybe they should let public schools get kids from all over the state and other states like the private schools due even it up a little? Add about 10 kids from Colerain to the SK roster T and X would be crying!

 

 

Go for it. There's no KHSAA rule that prevents it, just self inflicted limitations.

Let's throw one more bit of water on the enrollment fire. Dunbar has a MALE enrollment that at the last time I looked was just about 200 less then Trinity. Dunbar has one of the worst football programs in 6A. If enrollment was that big a factor wouldn't they be a powerhouse?

numbers of enrollment have little to do with it honestly. When a school or school district has multiple schools in it & attendance boundaries are set that is where a discrepancy can occur. Some districts have a more open enrollment where the initial school of attendance is allowed to be chosen by the family, & others are set in stone(unless there is a special program housed @ that specific school)

 

If you contrast Trinity & X against their own district in football Male & Manual, both the privates edge them by over 500 males(roughly) Trinity, St. X., Scott Co. Paul Dunbar, Henry Clay, Eastern & Lafayette all have over 1000 males in 9-12, but that doesn't always translate out to winning, for some of those @ least.

Dunbar is a public high school, which would suggest more people go there because the live in district. X is a private school. Parents send kids to private schools because of 1. the education is "supposedly" better and 2. sports.

Or because... you know... their families are Catholic and place a premium on Catholic education, but everybody likes to forget about that one.

I can guarantee a very large number of those playing sports at private schools aren't catholic.

It is a shame that a good thread has gone to the same old unfair advantage argument. I was looking forward to reading more about the Louisville schools begging not to have to play each other in the first 3 rounds.
