People in the rest of the state have been traveling two and three hours for the playoffs for years.

When they win 15 out of 17. BTW, Central KY supports this format as well.

 

I don't doubt it. The road to the final through NKY won't be very bumpy.

NKY 6A has always been matched up with the Louisville District. It wasn't till recently the started rotating district that you saw NKY 6A teams of Ryle and SK go all the way to the finals. So similar to what Ram said they were just playing different people.

 

And they both got spanked. I think the combined score of the 2 games was like 80-6.

I think the overall theme of this thread is how the Louisville districts do not want to play each other.

Louisville schools could care less. H, X, & T really have no problem who they play in the playoffs; if they play each other it is just more $$$. Sounds to me like the NKY schools are trying to position themselves for the runner-up slot.

Part of the fun of the playoffs is playing teams you don't see often. In one of the many incarnations of football playoffs we used to play teams within our districts in the first two rounds and almost everyone complained how boring that was. As a fan of high school football I want to see Lexington, NKY, Western KY teams and since I go to Trinity games and no one will nut up and play then the only chance I get to see them is in the playoffs so for purely selfish reasons yes I want to keep the rotating district schedule. If I thought that there was any chance at all the other schools in the state would finally grow a backbone and play Trinity maybe I would feel differently but since I see little chance of that happening here we are.

In a perfect world we would seed the teams 1-32 or set up 4, 1-8 brackets. This would cause travel issues which cause gate issues. Maybe games where people have to travel more than 3 hours could be played at a neutral site like the do in Ohio for all playoff games. Seeding would make for the best possible finals each year. A big question is who does the seeding? So hard to judge cause no one sees all the teams play. Ohio uses a computer formulas (Harbin ratings I think).

 

Unless everyone is willing to go to seeding then we are left with stuff like this.

Just out of curiosity, in our state, what schools would gain anything from playing Trinity in a game other than the playoffs? This is not a complaint, but there are not any schools in the state that match them in size, resources, draw size, etc. All boys are not created equal when it comes to numbers. If Trinity had to play in Ohio, they would have multiple teams that can match them in all areas. Trinity and X are BIG fish in a little pond. If they had to play in Ohio, they would be a medium fish in a large pond. I would be interested to see how many times Trinity or X lost to an Ohio school that did not win the State Title in Ohio, but still went on to win the State Title in Kentucky. IMO, Trinity playing in the state of Ohio might have 3 State championships over the years, definitely not 20 something.

 

It is easy for the big fish to complain about nobody playing them and call teams out, but in reality there are some coaches at T and X that have failed miserably as head coaches when taken out of the T/X setting.
