Regions-based on Population? So 3 versus 4 every season would mean only one Louisville team in the state final? In the other sports, Louisville has a chance for two representatives in the final if the blind draws pan out.

Lexington Catholic and Boyle County are in the same district/region so they have to beat each other and can't play in the state title game although they were the 2 best 4A teams in the state a few years ago. The map very clearly shows 4 logical, geographic regions in 6A. Why should the KHSAA cater to Louisville schools and treat them differently?

I think the Cooper/Conner to 6A has more to do about Geography & travel (not having to go to Oldham Co. every other year) than anything else, BUT I could be wrong & have been before. I remember a few years back during the last shuffle that one of the Lexington schools was supposed to be districted where they would have been in with Meade Co. if I am not mistaken.

It is a shame that a good thread has gone to the same old unfair advantage argument. I was looking forward to reading more about the Louisville schools begging not to have to play each other in the first 3 rounds.

 

No, we were content with All-Jefferson County division prior to 1975. Then, it was Jefferson County champ vs state-at large champ. After some whining by the state schools about how unfair it was to guarantee a Louisville school a spot in the finals, the KHSAA tried again. Alas, two Louisville schools made the finals more often than not and that was deemed unfair.

 

The KHSAA was trying make some money off the finals. The 6A whined about playing in Louisville. It won't be long before they 6A schools whine about playing in Bowling Green each year.

 

All the while, Trinity's enrollment has slowly increased from around 900 to the 1300 enrolled now. Your public systems continue to build more new schools every time you can squeeze a few hundred students together and you allow your school boards to raise your property taxes again and again......Boone, Oldham, Shelby, Warren and now Scott county is thinking about splitting McKee's kingdom. So more little Johnnies and Sallies can earn varsity letters?

I do not see any three team districts in Jefferson County? Talk about catering....no need if they had kept Cooper and Connor where they belonged. And why was Dixie Heights left hung out to dry?

I can guarantee a very large number of those playing sports at private schools aren't catholic.

 

Maybe things have changed since I graduated from Trinity but I was one of about 5 kids on the team that wasn't Catholic.

I believe the rematches in football do not generate nearly as many dollars and that is one of the reasons for rotation and pairing different districts......so you are saying the districts should play teams from their district only the first 2 rounds, like baseball, basketball , etc? How much like basketball do you want the football playoffs to be? Can we have the blind draw?

Three team districts are a joke, but that is a 6 class problem, not an NKY problem. Dixie chose to move to 5A, as did Oldham Co. and some Louisville schools. They weren't left out to dry. NKY had the 5 team district last alignment. The catering to Louisville is setting the system up to allow 2 Louisville schools in the state Finals. That cannot happen at any other classification level in the state.

No. I am saying with 2 NKY districts, 2 Central KY districts, 2 WKY districts and 2 Louisville districts, it makes complete sense geographically to match those districts into regions. Why force travel when it is not necessary? If there was still only 1 NKY district, I would assume this proposition would not have been made because travel would have been required no matter who they were matched up with.

It has everything to do with travel. There are 6 6A teams in NKY whhich only makes sense to compete locally.

You are preaching to the choir when it comes to tax money that leaves the area. NKY tax dollars support a lot of the state as well.

 

If my memory serves right it was not the rest of the state that complained about the old system it was some of the Jefferson County schools that didn't want to complete at the highest level when they were smaller. Its when they bolted that the old system began to crumble.

 

Going to regions would almost guarantee a Louisville representative like the old system. They are superior to the other regions now playing so you should like this. But no you want a system that can get two teams to the finals. Wait a minute that sounds like a plan that only serves one area. Sounds like the OP but it was obviously an attempt by NKY schools to beg to keep from having to play Louisville schools in the playoffs.

I stand corrected and again this is Jefferson County only, so therefore at least three of the 16 regional champs in all sports should come from Jefferson County. :deadhorse:

 

The fact Trinity is 10-0 versus Boone County, 6-0 versus Ryle, 4-0 versus Simon Kenton, and

1-0 vs Campbell County in football has nothing to do with the suggestions in the Cincy Enquirier? :thumb:

Just pointing out the difference between fact and opinion and 23% is not a majority. Some people consider 51% a majority and some 67%. Kind of cuts the legs out from under your arguments.

Yes we get it. Trinity is good. And yes the proposal was to benefit NKY not duck Trinity. You have to play them at some point anyway so how are you ducking them.

 

Dixie elected to play 5A on their own. Nobody left them behind.
