NKY 6A schools beg KHSAA not to play Louisville schools first three rounds

Featured Replies

From the Cincinnati Enquirer:

Simon Kenton football coach and athletic director Jeff Marksberry has written a proposal to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association commissioner Julian Tackett and the organization’s Board of Control seeking to have Class 6A football playoffs aligned like every other class starting with the 2015 season, when the next four-year district realignment begins.

The proposal has support from the other five Northern Kentucky schools that will be in Class 6A starting in 2015 (Boone County, Campbell County, Conner, Cooper and Ryle) and from schools in Central Kentucky.

The district realignment plan that was released by the KHSAA on Tuesday has the two Northern Kentucky districts (District 5 and District 6) rotating each year with the two Louisville districts (District 3 and District 4) for the first three rounds of playoffs.

They should change the Pioneers to the Foghorn Leghorns! The KHSAA should veto the move to 6A by Cooper and Connor. Move the rest of the NKY schools to 5A and bring the six Jefferson County 5A schools back to the top division. If you are basing the appeal on travel expenses"-which all come out of the gate receipts in the playoffs- then let's return to the days of Jefferson County champion being the top State division champion as well. Could the NKY schools look any more lame? Creating better rivalries among the NKY schools? Are you kidding me? Really? The two districts plus two fifth place Louisville teams squaring off the first three rounds? Building a false sense of importance or success is more like it.

Can you say scared?

With the "testicular fortitude" of their leaders no wonder 6A football in NKY is mediocre at best and totally irrelevant when any discussion about contenders for the title starts.

:lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

I would love to see Simon Kenton go with an all male student population with 2200 males in the building. Then we would have a more level playing field. Could you imagine the combined rosters of Dixie and SK on a single squad? That would be competitive with the Louisville schools.

What they should do is move cooper and Conner back to 5A, move up Highlands and Covington Catholic. Then you would see an nky team in the 6A finals 9 out of 10 times.

Not if the current staff was running it. They've already let their players know they don't think they can compete. And while we're on the subject of enrollment sizes why don't the 6A school regularly roll over Highlands? Aren't their enrollments quite a bit larger then Highlands? If enrollment was such a huge factor then the big schools in NKY would be beating Highlands door down to schedule them.

HHS roster is about 110. NKY 6A is typically 85-90. About 1 in 4 males in HHS play football. In other sports, they are completely uncompetitive.

You're the one that brought up the enrollment advantage that "the Louisville schools" have over the NKY schools. If that's a valid excuse for running scared from them then why does it not work for Highlands? Maybe, just maybe Highlands gets that kind of participation because they know the coaches there will give them the best chance possible to be a winner. Can the same be said for the 6A schools?

Under their proposal it would help the Louisville schools by-pass having to play Scott County before the finals.

HHS is unique situation with a cult like football culture that has been bred for generations. Now, if you want to criticize NKY 6A schools for not being competitive with CCH, you would have a valid point. No reason NKY6A schools should not be more competitive with CCH, but even they get blown off the field by HHS, and as we have seen in the preseason, HHS is blown off the field by Trinity.

So they should run scared?

Great life lesson.

1. Can you show me a quote or media publication where nky is begging the khsaa?

2. Why is it such a bad thing that nky football wants the same format as the rest of the football classes?

Why would 5 divisions have the same setup but 6A have a different setup?
