I talked to Coach Ruthsatz about 2 months after he came to CovCath, so take the rest for what it is worth based on how long ago it was. He told me he originally had asprirations to coach in College, but that Coach Hurly councilled him, that having a healthy family life and being a D1 bball coach did not mix well. If he wanted a sense of balance in his life (if that's what you want to call coaching high school) that being a High School head coach was the path to take. That is one of the reasons he came to Covcath.

 

I always thought he had aspirations to be in the GCL. He feels a very devout Catholic and feels comfortable in the Catholic school system. I believe he has other sources of income, so that shouldn't be a driving force. After watching the State Tourn. this past weekend, I think moving to Ohio would be a step backwards in regards to HS basketball.

 

I have never discussed it again with him since, so his thoughts may have changed but that is the gist of the discussion we had a few years ago.

I think they do win without the coaches son. Also CCH might not be a national power, but it is one of the best coaching jobs in NKY. Tony B would be the best choice.

Don't believe for a second anyone is being held back- much less Ruthsatz son. If your being held back, you probably aren't going to CCH.

If he passes 8th grade and is held back by his parents he will be ineligible his senior year.

I truely don't know anything about him, and sorry if it came off as if I were taking shots. Not my intention. I'm sure he's a good dude. I was just trying to make the point that this is a huge job, and the qualifications laid out so far would not be good enough. Honestly, I'm not taking shots. If you knew nothing about him, other than he's currently an assistant and he coached at Silver Grove or Ludlow or Bellevue or any other small school that does not factor into Regional Title talks, you'd have to agree with me. I apologize to Tony B. (Whom I do not know) and all his supporters. If this job goes on the market, I would expect much interest from around the state. I mean they brought in a guy from New Jersey the last go around. See my point?

 

Do you know how many times in the last decade, probably 2 decade, SG has won 20 games? One... Tony was at the helm. And it wasn't just one player that was on that team that was REALLY good. That was a good team and they knew what they were doing. Now, Pelle was his star. But most really good teams have one kid they rely on more than others. And he knew when to move onto greener pastures. He's a great coach and a great guy. Would be a great candidate.
