I honestly believe that if Bw does not get it done this year with a title the blame falls squarely on the coaches. They have arguably the most talented team in 1A and have a very good vet QB. To booster their chances, the rest of the field looks very beatable. Clearly the best and last chance at redemption against the Barbarians from the West who have owned Bw but look to be at their most vulnerable with the youth galore, especially as they bring in a new QB. For Mf a loss at the hands of Bw would not be that big after the domination, but I can't imagine being in Bw shoe's if they do not get another shot or get beat by Mf again. That would be a burden that the program would have to carry forward forever and every time they see or hear of Mf it will conjure up the painful memories with most likely no chances ever again at redemption. So that should further be motivation for the Tigers and as I said in the opening sentence, if Bw fails again it is on the coaches like it or not.

Yeah, I disagree with a lot of it.

 

1. You said it yourself - Beechwood has never beaten Mayfield, even when Yeagle was coach. That basically ends the whole point of your post there.

 

2. Mayfield has turned their roster over before and it didn't make much difference - they still win and they still beat Beechwood so why should anyone expect anything different this year?

 

3. What has this Beechwood team proven? To be perfectly frank, last year was arguably the worst Beechwood team of the 6 class era. So because they all are back again they are suddenly awesome? No sir. You have to prove that on the field.

 

4. I will not take the coaches off the hook. They are absolutely responsible for the team's results, but not by themselves. No coaches are putting on pads. The players have to get it done on the field. The coaches aren't any more or any less responsible than the players for the results of the team.

 

5. Yes, a Beechwood win over Mayfield would be great. But it doesn't define the Beechwood program. No one jumps off if the Tigers lose. If Mayfield once again loses before playing Beechwood, as has happened in the past, and the Tigers win the title, everyone at Beechwood celebrates. Is have to agree with everything you said here.

 

I still feel BW has the talent to go far in the playoffs but they had most of these players last year also and I thought the coaching and play calling hurt them last year by not going with some very good players (seniors) and went too heavy forcing the ball to their young guns too much.

 

I think they can be very good this year but coaching needs to be the first to improve this year.

Agree with all but this (Big shocker I know )

 

The players definitely have to get it done, but the coaches are responsible for putting them in the BEST position to succeed. Along with many things, the preparation and play calling has to be there. As we have discussed many times, I just don't think that has happened under Rash like it should.

 

In its big Class A losses, I believe that Beechwood has been out-coached more often than out-played.

I've said this on here before but I remember in 09 when Beechwood came down the 1st time and I asked a Beechwood fan and a player ( my step sisters son who played for BW) before they game why BW would beat Mayfield and they both said because they were faster ( what film were they looking at) . Beechwood will have to out muscle Mayfield to beat them because I doubt if there will be very times they will be faster. But, I have had fun over the years going back and forth with the Beechwood fans and gotten to know a few personally and Beechwood is one of the finest programs in the state and I know toothpick and I will miss being in the same class as Beechwood . This could be the year for the Tigers.

I am not saying Beechwood was faster than Mayfield in 2009, but speed had nothing to do with that loss. Mayfield completely controlled the line of scrimmage in that game. In the recent Mayfield losses, the play at the line of scrimmage has been the problem more than speed.

I can't remember a time when Baseball interfered with football as much as it seems to this year. I guess it could just because of the level of baseball talent playing football makes it seem worse. I'm sure they will hit the ground running next week.

When you start as early as you do here in Kentucky, high level baseball players are going to miss some football practice.
