Down for Beechwood is still above 90% of the rest of the schools in the state. No shame in not getting past Mayfield. We'll see what happens this year but while not winning SC's, they still are always in the picture.

 

I don't think the school gets enough credit for their performance. Just an awesome environment from the kids to the parents to the teachers to the administration to the community. Few places better to receive an education. No one gets buried there.

I don't trust him either. Give some examples and testimonials of those who got "buried". My daughter is entering 4th grade at BW and WAS a very average student with ADHD. BW admin. and teachers put special programs in place to the point that she is excelling in most areas has now has the self confidence to try things she never did. I have 3 daughters and moved to Ft. Mitchell because of the academic reputation and not because my girls were athletic marvels. Zero, did you get buried somewhere or are in the process of? Are you telling me that all the kids that play for Highlands are from Ft. Thomas? If so, that is impressive.

 

Apparently so.You have to move to Ft. Thomas now to play football at HHS. If they win another title this year after a coaching transition AND losing their best player they will have turned me from critic to believer.

 

Something about their conditioning program is special. Tradition helps too.

Yep so I've lived and seen the success stories for 48 years. Athletic studs and duds, academic studs and duds, special needs, all of them receiving the help they needed and more. So I know you're just blowing smoke.

I know several kids who turned to Beechwood to begin the 9th grade...none of them were outstanding students or studs on the field. They drive from another county.....many reasons for this that they can only answer, a possible answer is that maybe they did not want to get buried academically or athletically at a 5a or 6a school. Smaller classrooms, fewer kids equals more attention in my opinion. Because there are fewer numbers on a sports team means less competition and possibly more playing time. Politics is everywhere and these kids probably had to or still have to contend with being the "outsiders"....and still choose to go there.

IMO, the program is down. It is not what it use to be. The can't get past Mayfield and now are having trouble with Frankfort. Academics start at home with a solid base there. I believe that the school takes too much credit for what the families do for their kids in that community. If you are not a stud athlete or a top of the line A student, you will get buried there.

 

I guess a draw would be the fact that if you were a freshman, and knowing that Mayfield is moving to AA; there is a chance of winning a championship again if they can get by Frankfort. Who knows? I just don't get it. A bit overrated in my book.

I have a ton of respect for the BW program and the quality of education provided to those kids...based on state testing of course. I would strongly consider them as an option IF I had to leave the SK district.

Many of the transfers in may not have cracked a starting lineup at the schools they would have went to as Freshman or Sophomores based on talent and numbers, but they can at a smaller school like Beechwood.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions I hear repeated around the state. You think just because a player plays at a larger school they are better? I know six players that earned scholarships to college from one 1A program, they got those scholarships competing against players from all levels. Likewise, over the years this same 1A school has multiple player earn college scholarships on a yearly basis, yes competing against player from 6A schools around the state. The size of the school is based on enrollment, not talent.

 

And, you probably won't believe this, but this 1A school of which I speak beats schools in the 2A class, 3A class, 4A class, and even the 5A class. I know, that is hard to believe because the bigger schools must have more talent due to their size, but it has happened somehow.

 

If you have to ask why a player, or a player's parents, choose a 1A school, you wouldn't understand.

I don't think the misconception is about talent. Larger schools should have more depth and be able to wear out the smaller school with that depth. A 6A school should rarely if ever lose to a 1A or 2A school

That's the belief, but it fails on the follow though.

 

Quality programs win more then non-quality programs, no matter what the size of the school. The class size of the school does not make a better program, nor does the number of students in the building, the importance placed on the program determines how good the team is.

I would think it has more to do with how many good players the schools have. If I can pick from 700 boys vs 250 boys I have a better chance of finding 22 really good players. If a player is not one of those 22 out of 700, he has a better chance at being one of the 22 out of 250. At least I think that's what the post meant. Obviously there is very, very good talent at the smaller schools, just not as much quantity.

I could care less if you or any other here trust me. That is kind of funny actually. I have 2 kids that graduated from Beechwood. The other two I pulled out.

 

I also had a child with learning disabilities. Her job in school was to help the other kids with down syndrome. Really? Their reasoning was they just didn't have the people to help them all. Who says that and who has the nerve to admit it? Only Beechwood. So there is my testimony. Hope that makes you feel better. Does that mean I have an axe to grind? Maybe, but who wants their child to go to school to help others?
