Tallest Players in NKY History?

Featured Replies

Lloyd Jay Stenzel 6'7"

Boone Dave Dinn 6'6''

Walton Scott Benton 6'6''

CCH Sean Dineen 6'8''

I like Sean a lot, but he isn't close to 6'8".

I am going to take a guess and say every school in N. Ky. has had at least one player 6'9" tall in their history.

'81 Grad from CovCath Don Tourney was another big one. He went on to play at Marshall. 6'7" perhaps?

It was Don Tierney, a neighbor of mine growing up on Highland Ave in Ft Mitchell. I remember at Blessed Sacrament he could dunk in 8th grade, but we had to give him about a dozen tries before he could get one lol. It was one of this dunks where you'd let the ball roll off your finger tips and as long as your hand touched the rim and the ball fell in we'd call it a dunk lol. Once he got in HS at CCH he could get a legitimate dunk.

For Coopers short existence it would be big Lou M. From last year but I don't Remeber his height.

Beechwood had a kid in the late 70's , Pohlgeirs (sp) I went to school with his younger brother Dan. He I thought was something like 6'9" or something like that. Kurt might if been his name.

Staverman was only 6'7". He played pro basketball.

Beechwood tallest - 6'9" Kurt Pohlgeers?

Hmmmm ...

Dixie had two taller boys from `91? Andy Motz? 6`11 and `93 Drew Powers 6`8. I'm pretty sure that was their heights. Anyone help on this?

Andy Motzer, I think. He was right around the 7' mark. I think Drew was about 6'6". Dixie had a handful of guys around 6'6" throughout the 90's.

I seem to remember Dixie having another player back in maybe the 80's who was 6'10" or 11". None of the names I have seen sound familiar.

Hmmmm ...

I think we have a winner lol

Since I'm not a native of Campbell County. The tallest I remember there is 2007 Kenny Walker 6'7' and now sophomore Matt Wilson, 6'7". The tallest I recall at Pendleton County is 6'9" Keeton Belcher 2005

Not Cowens, he said guy came off of the bench.

Sorry if it has already been mentioned...I believe the guy you're referring to has a grandson at St Joe's in Cold Spring that is a really big kid already as well. Projected to be a 7 footer that will end up at Newcath. 4th or 5th grader. Old guy at the gym was telling me about the same guy.

I played with 6'10 white Manute Bol Brett Babin at Bellevue. He was a shot blocking fool I'm telling ya. He altered a ton as well. We made him wear elbow pads in practice because of all the shots we took to the chops. I have a pic of him when we played CovCath in the 87' Regional Tournament. I will post later.

Here are a couple of pics of Babin the 6'10 White Manute bol of the late 80's.

I am not sure how tall Tigger was but you are correct when you say he could flat out play. I believe he was 2 years older than me, I remember playing Jr. Pro ball with him at the American Legion in Newport. He was a man among boys, throwing it down as a 7th grader. It is ashame how it ended.

I was a freshman in 85' and Tigger was playing for Dayton. He had a breakaway and he bounced the ball high in the air above the rim before going up and dunking with two hands. He could pass like no other 6'6 kid, always going behind the back....reminded me of a thin white Pete Maravich.

Good stuff Q. I knew my description, the white Manute Bol, was 100% dead on. :lol2:
