The CovCath team of 1967/1968 had UK/Marshall grad Randy Noll listed as 6'7" University of Tulsa grad Joe Voskuhl listed 6'8" and University of Dayton grad John VonLehman listed at 6"9".

 

Randy could dribble and could hit a jumper anytime he wanted from the corner, he wasn't big in bulk but man could he jump.

Joe was big, big enough that 1st year CovCath football coach Steve Rasso, begged Joe to play football.

John was as skinny as a rail that year but teams rarely saw a trio of the size of CovCath that could run and shoot like those three could.

 

I remember that team, HUGE front line.

 

Joe was the one that called out George McGinnis in the KY/IN all star game. Not his smartest move.

What year was Mays? I remember one or two pretty tall players on the '75 team.

 

Mayes graduated around 2003 ish. Possibly a year or two before or after.

I Think you are correct with 2003. He graduated along side Russ Bramlage. Bramlage amazed me with his leaps. The kid could sure get up to the rim like his legs had springs in them.

 

Mayes seemed to come along his senior year, but always seemed a bit timid to me. I didn't follow his collegiate career so perhaps the beast in him eventually came out then. :idunno:

2003 sounded right to me because I believe he graduated right before I entered the school.

 

I don't remember how much Stephen played before his senior year but he definitely played well during his college career. I believe he had offers to go to bigger schools but he wanted to be a priest/minister so he chose Mount Vernon. That is the same reason he turned down some European offers after graduation from college. He now is doing great work as an officer in the Salvation Army.

Dixie had two taller boys from `91? Andy Motz? 6`11 and `93 Drew Powers 6`8. I'm pretty sure that was their heights. Anyone help on this?

Yes, Mayes graduated in 2003 with Russ Bramlage & Doug Jones. Even at 7', Mayes may have played some JV as a junior. Very tall & a good dude.

How tall was the late "Tigger" Brooks???? You could list him at Dayton, Bellevue, & Newport, I'm pretty sure he had stops at all 3 high schools in the mid 80's.

 

The kid could "flat-out" play, unfortunately drugs consumed his life before he reached his ultimate potential. 2 years ago at his funeral on display were recruiting letters from Maryland's Lefty Driesell and Duke's Mike Krzyzewski, among others.

Purple Haynes was 6'4"ish. He had a load of potential, he finished at OBI. He had a huge dunk in the '89 final as a frosh.

 

Minnie Haynes is 4 years old now I believe. If he has dad's game look out.

I am not sure how tall Tigger was but you are correct when you say he could flat out play. I believe he was 2 years older than me, I remember playing Jr. Pro ball with him at the American Legion in Newport. He was a man among boys, throwing it down as a 7th grader. It is ashame how it ended.

There was a Steenken on the 75 team. Seems like he was 6'10 or so.

Larry Staverman in the early 1950 played at New Catholic I think he was 7ft, Silver Grove had a kid named Griese that was about 6'7", his sister was 6'3'
