Backspin
My personal experience was that after what appeared to be a positive courtship, only a roster spot was offered with the possibility of money later. My son said I would rather go where I am wanted even if it wasnt his first choice. I think this strategy is common for schools looking to depend on in-state loyalties rather than scholarships. I believe this because he received a phone call the day after he verballed elsewhere.
AverageJoesGym
Mods are constantly updating the list. When I posted it was 3. Sorry. No way EKU could use Lex Sowards, OL Ryle Indiana-State, Donald Styles, DB Central-Austin Peay, Austin Askin, OL St. Xavier-Eastern Illinois, or Lyndon Rowe, RB Ballard-Georgia State I'm sure. They signed 5 OL in this class. As for the RB, their 3 leading rushers (at running back, not counting the QB) were 2 freshmen and a sophomore--In addition, they added UK transfer Dy'Shawn Mobley so they already have a crowded backfield. They also signed 4 DBs in this class and have at least 3 starters (if not 4) returning from last year.

They were hoping to give little or no money in the beginning and thought he would still come. When we called and told them he was going elsewhere they were stunned. Colonelblitz
Or offered a scholarship but chooses to grey shirt or walkon at " big schools" only to never be heard from again. It's a big leap from HS to DI. I think EKU's last two classes have been very good. This year being the best in 6 yrs. Only time will tell.

This sounds exactly like our experience. My son liked it there and to be honest it was his first choice. Funny thing is, I have a younger son who has a legitimate chance to be better than his brother and they will be wasting their time if they contact him. Not my decision, his. Can't deny the fact that I like ir that he wants to take a stance for his brother.
Colonelblitz
Sorry to say, it happens at all schools. Being told no can have a positive effect, depending on one's character. Backspin I'm sure your Son went on to find success. I just wonder if younger Son would feel the same if it were uk instead of EKU. For the record, I love it went EKU signs KY players. But there's just not enough meat on the bone after the big dogs eat. Granted the quality of players has increased immensely over the years, has stated earlier, but still pales in comparison to the deep south. There's just more players. I've lived in NC,GA,TX,TN... High School football there is like ky basketball here. When I lived in Dallas in wasn't uncommon to have 30-35,000 fans at a game on Friday night. Its what they did.. then get into the playoffs !! crazy fun. A little research over the past few years might put a little perspective on the Ky boys at EKU. 2013- 41 , 2012- 44, 2011 - 30, 2010 -32, 2009 - 29, 2008 - 29. Plus Coach Hood takes the team to Hazard each year for a full scrimmage.

Backspin
I am proud of the decision my oldest made, it was the best for him as decided by him. I dont feel like he was told no, I feel like he was mislead or deceived. As for what my youngest would think about your scenario, you would have to ask him. I have pushed my kids to become independent and I support their decisions. The numbers you present are trending upward. I guess I would have to ask how many were on scholly in 2008 and how many in 2013? Those numbers would be more indicative of the subject.

AverageJoesGym
Your a good man, I like how you raised your Sons. As for schollys, I have no idea.. We had a really good experience with EKU. My son had signed with Georgetown then when the Colonels had their starting longsnapper transfer we talked to Coach Hood and he was given a chance to come to camp with a chance to win a spot. He went from 4th string to starter by the end of camp and willhead into camp with 2 years as a starter under his belt. He's on a full academic scholarship but has been given some money for football after he earned a spot.
Colonelblitz
That would have been Danny Adams. He transferred to Florida. Your son has done a great job snapping.

If had had signed with another school, was EKU permitted to initiate talks about football?

If had had signed with another school, was EKU permitted to initiate talks about football? No. We hadn't talked to them before. They didn't directly contact us before we talked to them. They were at the school to discuss a couple of other players when the subject of needing a longsnapper came up. It was actually his high school coach that told him about my son. Since Georgetown is not an NCAA school signing with them had no bearing on EKU. We contacted them and set up an appointment.
