I think that would be fair. And as Harry points out, that would place them in 4A.

 

Any way you slice it, that's where Wayne County really belongs. Using a 4 year average and not offsetting to take Monticello into account is the only possible way Wayne County would be 3A sized.

There is no proper "size division" classification in basketball. Only one state champion each year. They split basketball into regions, divisions, semis, etc.

What determines to be eligible for the "All A Classic"? NCC, Newport, and Lloyd participate 2A in football but slide down to 1A for basketball.

Teams who participate in the All "A" Classic, have to be one of the 131 smallest schools in KY. LINK

Is anyone brave enough to speculate on who will petition to move up (besides Johnson Central)? Not just who you think it would benefit, who do you actually think will do it?

 

Locally, I believe Greenwood will. They attempted to stay into 6A in the last alignment and without speculating as to what I am almost certain the reasons behind that were, nothing has really changed about their situation. If they wanted it then, wouldn't they want it now?

 

I'm hopeful they will let us know who requested to move up and to where after the February 21st deadline. I don't want to wait until April to find out with the actual draft alignment.

Ohio County and Apollo, travel to Daviess, Muhlenberg much closer than to Graves, Christian and Hoptown.

Make a nice 4 team district of current 3rd region foes, all traditional rivals who carry over basketball and baseball feuds to the gridiron.

McCracken really throws a fly into the ointment in 6A, they aren't close to anyone and aren't in the same region as any bigger schools now that Marshall has dropped.

Just let them all play at large and rank them afterwards for playoff seedings.

Completely new coaching staff may not want it, but it may not be their decision.

I agree. Matney is scared to death of those NK teams. Cant beat them.

 

3-3 vs. CovCath, even though they have been owned by them the past two seasons. They have not, and will not, beat or compete with those teams again until the playbook expands past 3 plays.

Where is Johnson Central going to go in 5A? There isnt a 5A team within 3 hours of them. They are stuck.

Perry Central, Letcher Central, North and South Laurel are easier to get to and it takes the same, if not less, amount of time to get to in comparison to their current district with the exeption of Ashland.

Definitely. Mapquest says its a 2:40 minute trip so a bus would be more, like you said. The good part is the roads are good. The bad part is that its a really long way.

I agree but with the expansion of the Mountain Parkway coming in the near future, maybe it will open up a lot of new potential district arrangements and not leave JC out in the boondocks. Several years ago they were in a district with Woodford Co. and Bryan Station. I see no legitimate reason why the locations I have mentioned would be an issue when compared to where they have been in the past. Ultimately, the KHSAA has the final say and all teams will be where the KHSAA wants them to be.

But you're making the assumption that PCC and LCC play up to 5A. That may or may my be a leap at this point. LCC played up last time but PCC was aligned in 5A. With both in 4A they may stay put.
