January 5, 201412 yr It's official... He's gone.[sQUOTE] Its been like a dead man walking the last couple of days. Glad it's officially over.
January 5, 201412 yr Louisville or Texas. It's a no brainier and he picked the right program. I mean you play in a pizza box.
January 5, 201412 yr Louisville or Texas. It's a no brainier and he picked the right program. I mean you play in a pizza box, some high schools have bigger stadiums. Ignorance like this is really unnecessary...
January 5, 201412 yr Hurtt stays here.....which is HUGE!!!!! He can't go anywhere else because of the Show Cause.
January 5, 201412 yr Did the "some high schools have bigger football stadiums" comment get deleted after you looked it up? Leave the mountains sometime.
January 5, 201412 yr Can't blame him. He had to take this job…it's just one of those jobs. If he doesn't take this job, he wonders "what if" the rest of his life, I don't care if he ever would admit that or not. Tom won't let things slip. Louisville has become a big time job (obviously not in that first tier, but Top 20 jobs for sure IMO), and I'm proud/thankful for what Jurich, John L., Petrino and Charlie (this guy in particular) have done for football in our state. Best of luck Charlie Strong….Texas just got a new fan.
January 5, 201412 yr UL is not in a good position right now. It's going to be very hard to get a big name this late. Charlie kind of screwed over the program if you ask me
January 5, 201412 yr Looks like some of those UK fans who said Strong leaving Louisville was a realistic possibility weren't so wrong after all. The more I thought about it and debated it, the more convinced I became that Strong would be at Louisville awhile longer. Guess I was wrong as well.
January 5, 201412 yr UL is not in a good position right now. It's going to be very hard to get a big name this late. Charlie kind of screwed over the program if you ask me I disagree about that. Lots of top coordinators are available, as is the single greatest offensive mind in college football.
January 5, 201412 yr 5 random thoughts about all this: 1). The media constantly stating that he "secretly met with Texas"...yeah...of COURSE it was secret. I didn't tell my former boss I was interviewing for another job. Duh! 2). Strong hadn't handled this well...I actually think he has handled it as well as possible. I didn't tell anyone other than family and my closest friends I was leaving until I told my boss. I also didn't tell him until I had my offer letter in hand. I also had the luxury of no one leaking my hiring at the new job. But if it had leaked, I still wouldn't address it with anyone other than family or trusted inner circle until I had talked to my boss 3). Louisville is a stepping stone job.....I think this is true, bit less true now than even 10 years ago. The move to the ACC helps, and I think that we may be able in the next couple of coaching rounds, to attract more candidates looking for somewhere to coach for a relatively long time. 4). Strong has been coaching for decades and Louisville was his first head coaching job. I can't blame him for taking such a huge opportunity. It's not that he doesn't appreciate or love Louisville and the job. But how often would such an opportunity present itself? 5). the Louisville football fan base needs to examine themselves. If we want to be regarded as supportive, and we want to attract big name candidates, we need to show the program we support them by doing exactly what Strong chided us for NOT doing...Get our butts in those seats, and not just for the big games. I agree with him...Kentucky can do it, and we have a consistently better product. We want to be big time? Show it.
January 5, 201412 yr Reggie B from Trinity said he would interested in Texas if Charlie wanted him there.
January 5, 201412 yr I disagree about that. Lots of top coordinators are available, as is the single greatest offensive mind in college football. Really the only way to go is the coordinator route. I don't think Rich Rod or any other head coach is on the table now except for maybe Bobby P.

I agree with him...Kentucky can do it, and we have a consistently better product. We want to be big time? Show it. 1) Keeping Jurich in the dark was a discourtesy, period. Especially as he has been upfront with saying all he wanted was for Strong and the other school to let him know they were talking. 2) I think not talking about it was the right thing to do with the media. 3) There are maybe two handfuls of college jobs in the country that aren't stepping stone jobs to Texas. 4) I agree. 5) This, however, is horse pocky. For one thing, Louisville's attendance was the best it had ever been this year, against possibly its worst schedule. Louisville sold out it's tickets to the Belk Bowl two years ago and had great support in their last two bowls as well. I don't know where you got the talking point about Kentucky, but percentage-wise Louisville kills them in attendance. In fact, Louisville comes pretty close to matching Kentucky in raw numbers in a smaller stadium with a much smaller fan base, and if you subtracted the visiting fans I'm absolutely sure that number gets even closer.
