February 3, 201412 yr Brackets are out for all grades. IN 7th Boys. District 1 @ Ockerman RA Jones Vs Grant Co winner to play Gray Ockerman vs Camp Ernst District 2 @ IHM Ludlow vs Tichenor winner to play Conner IHM vs St. Pius District 3 @Summit View Summit View vs Beechwood winner to play Turkeyfoot Twenhofel vs Woodland Distict 4 @Highlands Sharp vs Newport winner to play Campbell Co Highlands vs Holmes My thoughts on these District Tournaments. District 1 will likely see Camp Ernst and Gray advancing to the Regional. District 2 will showcase a huge 1st round game in a loser goes home match. IHM vs St. Pius. I think St. Pius recently won by 2 points. Matchup of two very good bigs in Coldiron and Thelen. I see IHM exacting revenge at home and advancing to play Conner in the finals. Conner and IHM advance. District 3 showcases another great 1st round loser goes home game with Twenhofel vs Woodland. Turkefoot will likely play Woodland in the finals, just my prediction. Turkeyfoot and Woodland advance. District 4 will showcase the Birds at home again vs Holmes. They beat the Bulldogs 2 weeks ago and led most of the game. I expect them to take care of business and play the Camels in the Finals. Birds and Camels advance. Very nice report! It is unreal how evenly matched the 7th grade teams are pretty much across the board. Nothing will surprise me here.
February 3, 201412 yr Author Stinky, Who else do you have competing for the sixth grade regional championship? I did not see every team. I have watched about 14 of the 20 teams. St Pius, IHM, Conner, and Camp Ernst all impressed me. Saw each of those teams early in the season. Newport is very well coached and play well together. Highlands has progressed, has the size and guard play to make a run.
February 3, 201412 yr IHM 8th girls continue to roll! Record is 32-3. Really? With all the weather cancellations, etc they have played 35 games...... Just curious where they are getting all their games?
February 3, 201412 yr Really? With all the weather cancellations, etc they have played 35 games...... Just curious where they are getting all their games? Im sure they play in weekly parochial tournaments. That is a ton of games though.
February 3, 201412 yr Im sure they play in weekly parochial tournaments. That is a ton of games though. I'm pretty sure you are correct. When my daughter was an 8th grader, the played in several local weekend and holiday tournaments, so they also had a lot of games. Another thing I will mention is that they get maybe one day a week to practice, if that, because the gym is always occupied. The gym schedule has to accommodate approx. 30 basketball teams, girls and boys, 3rd - 8th grade, rec and select. So playing lots of games is a way to get court time and practice. February 3, 201412 yr Campbell beat Gray. Gray has lost 4 games counting tournaments and out of district games, overall record is 19-4 with last game tonight @ Conner. Lost to Scott Co. and Southern Pulaski (in overtime), Campbell Co, (Twenhofel or Turkeyfoot) can't remember which one? All loses back in November. Grey 7th grade also lost to Walton Verona. Out of district game for them and that was earlier in their season as well.
February 3, 201412 yr Heard that one of the girls on Highlands 7th grade is out due to a foot injury.
February 3, 201412 yr Heard that one of the girls on Highlands 7th grade is out due to a foot injury. That is correct, Chloe Jansen is in a cast, although I do not know the nature of the injury or the length of time that she is out.
February 3, 201412 yr Grey 7th grade also lost to Walton Verona. Out of district game for them and that was earlier in their season as well. Gray lost to Conner last week, so am I correct that they lost 6 games this season?
February 3, 201412 yr That is correct, Chloe Jansen is in a cast, although I do not know the nature of the injury or the length of time that she is out. Heard that is was 4 to 6 weeks. Tough loss for Highlands.
February 3, 201412 yr Heard that is was 4 to 6 weeks. Tough loss for Highlands. Very tough loss. If they pull together, they still have enough to get back to the finals, but it makes beating Conner a daunting task. Others will have to step up! Go Birds!
February 4, 201412 yr I'll follow Q11 lead and add the 8th Grade girls, perhaps someone else can add other tourneys? District 1 @RA Jones Grant Co/RA Jones winner v Ockerman Gray v Camp Ernst District 2 @Conner Ludlow/Tichenor winner v Conner IHM v St Pius District 3 @Twenhofel Beechwood/Turkeyfoot winnew v Twenhofel Summit View v Woodland District 4 @ Sharp Holmes/Sharp winner v Highlands Campbell Co v Newport District 1 is the most competitive with Ockerman,Gray and Camp Ernst all capable of advancing. I feel a favorite in the whole region is Ockerman with outstanding guard play and home court for regional tourney, they will advance and take Gray with them. District 2 is loaded also with Conner, IHM and St Pius all having strong seasons. Conner will enjoy home court and look for opportunity to avenge a two point setback to IHM if they can get a rematch. Conner is a tough determined team and if they can get inside game/scoring, they could win this district. IHM is more balanced and has better size and should continue their fine season into regional. District 3 is a two horse race with the clear favorite being Twenhofel. Woodland lost a lot of players this season and will advance but these two will definitely represent this district District 4 features the surging HHS squad that has an impressive 14 game win streak and a 6-0 record against the other District winners. Don't call them the favorite but they are a legit contender for the Regional title. Look for a pesky Newport squad to advance as well. Regionals will be super competitive with some tough first round match-ups. Ockerman at home will be tough to beat but in the end with a balanced group, a district runner-up could wear this crown!
February 4, 201412 yr In the seventh grade boys, I think a lot of teams have a chance. Highlands, gray, Campbell County, Conner, Twenhofel, Holmes, IHM, st. Pius all can win on any given night... I would give slight advantage to highlands and gray. In 8th grade, it looks like conner's to lose from games I've seen. I'll take Ockerman and St. Pius in the finals with Ockerman getting redemption against their only lose of the season. St. Pius defeated Ockerman soundly but the Rockets were any place but in the gym that night. Played as poorly as I have seen them play all year. Rest assured if St. Pius were to beat Ockerman, which I don't feel will happen, it will certainly not be by the margin it was in their first meeting.
