CCH proudly holds themselves to the higher standard.

 

Is the "higher" standard real or their own perception?

I don't want to rock the CCH boat, but my question is the same I raised last year and at the beginning of the season. CCH as you say has beaten HHS here and there which gives them respect. Does 3 times in 17 years really equal here and there? CCH has been treated with kid gloves on here for awhile and no other school besides HHS gets that kind if respect in NKY and I do t get it. CCH hasn't won anything in awhile, not even a district title, so why treat them like the untouchables they have become around here?

 

You make some valid points about it being so lopsided and the fact that they have won nothing in Football but when the name CovCath is mentioned we all talk like men.

 

I would have to say the respect part comes from the fact that the very second that Highlands lets it guard down CovCath could sneak a win out and the next you know Highlands is watching the State Championship from Ft Thomas.

 

It is by far the "most important" game on our regular season schedule and regardless of the fact that it appears to be a dead rivalry it still is what it is until another team takes their place.

 

I think the respect label is just part of Highlands approach to all athletics across the board and CovCath is no exception.

 

Yeah it would be really really easy to kick the Blueboys while they are down but that is just not Highlands style.

 

Heck, we might have to play them again in Nov and you never know, they might just be laying in the weeds waiting for all of their stud players to return and the whole team to be healthy and perfect just for one special Friday nite in Ft Thomas and when the moment is right pounce on the Birds like they have once or twice before. and that right there my friend is why we must respect the Blueboys. :thumb:

I don't know how many times I've seen posts along the lines of "If so and so would of played Highlands then they would of been better prepared to win the so and so game"

that isn't respect of other teams, that is more of belittling every other team and placing Highlands on such a high pedestal that everyone else should bow down to them.

It's just one parent's opinion, not necessarily the real reason the game was cancelled. It does not add value to this thread. I just wanted to jump in and add my shaking head to the others.

Really, I can think of no reason for this second cancellation. The whole QB and injury issue is not the reason. CCH had a QB versus Ryle. How many kids play JV? I would be surprised if there were less than 30 players on the CCH JV roster. Cov Cath JV is 4-0. They have played two JV games in the week before or after these cancellations. They beat a Beechwood JV team that is very good with only one loss besides CCH and wins over 5 4A/6A JV teams. Cov Cath just beat 6A Ryle, that should be a talented team based on their freshman success the last couple years. There is zero evidence that CCH JV could not field a competitive team versus Highlands. I know the Highlands people can make a big thread out of any issue with the Birds, but this thread deserves all the attention it is getting IMO.

Since MOST teams JV schedules follow their Varsity scheduling, I'm not sure anyone ELSE is intentionally ducking Highlands. Cooper had one open week (won't make the drive to S.Oldham for JV) and we worked in Beechwood instead.

Valid point, I didn't know if the lack of NKY games was by design or from lack of cooperation.
