CovCath does not not get a free pass on this one. Just doesn't make sense and the CovCath faithful have to be concerned for the future of their football program.

 

If memory serves me correct, didnt CovCath just start a Wrestling program? Could this new program be stealing talent from the FB program?

 

Either way, TBirds might just have uncovered something here, I think there might be some substance to this whole seeding outcome.

Iam sad to say I have lost alot of respect for Covington Catholic High School football program with the recent news. For the alumn and the current group of faithful,...you deserve better than this...JMO

 

I'm thinking there may be a majority vote on the cancellation of these games. I'm sure Coach Wirth went to the players, families, Administration and said for the betterment of our program, we need to again cancel the JV game against Highlands. Maybe, just maybe they are tired of it. Heck, can't blame them. I mean they escaped with a 1 td win against a mediocre HHS frosh team with what many consider one of CCH's greatest. And the Varsity, well AGAIN. So maybe to stop the spiral, best way is to not even play.

With a spirit that will not play a JV football game against Highlands...

Here is what I know of the situation. CovCath is in fact playing JV game tonight against Ryle and played their last one versus Beechwood. Games in between the Bird games. Ryan Mc is in fact playing QB for the JV tonight against Ryle. No way CVH plays against HHS because they would not want him to risk injury versus the Birds JV. Also hearing that Wirth may be wearing out his welcome in Park Hills. Interesting situation to say the least. 20 plus posts in this thread and we have not heard from the mouthpiece of the Colonels? Interesting.

 

Sad that HHS gets shorted another JV game. At best they are going to play 7 games assuming that Elder and Scott County do not elect to cancel.

Sorry for the delayed response. I'm actually in Miami for work and just got back to the hotel.

 

In short, I'm disappointed in the decision. Too many juniors, sophs, and talented frosh to not play a JV game. I was a receiver in high school. Hadn't played QB since about 4th grade. Our JV QB got called up due to injury so we didn't have a QB. They simplified the playbook and I played QB. It can be done without a lot of pain.

 

I've stated before that I'm disappointed for the boys who bust their hump DAILY in practice, get very few or no varsity minutes, and then play half of a JV game schedule AND they don't play their #1 rival. It's tough to justify.

 

You cant not play because of injuries especially when you play Beechwood and Ryle with the same injuries.

 

I'd be really upset if I were the parent of a JV player. I like Dave but unless there is "something else" not playing HHS is a mistake on his part.

Injuries are horrible and I wish them on no one but I know for a fact that more kids have been discovered and have gone on to greatness over the yrs because they were given a chance to play in place of their injured comrad.

 

I always told my kids while playing sports and watching from the sidelines that they were just 1 play away from being the man. :thumb:

I don't think it will be played. I think HHS finds another game. And a quality one at that!

Don't know the reason, but it is extremely disappointing. Without knowing the reason I'll give the coaching staff the benefit of the doubt and hope it is for a very good reason. Having said that I know that there are a whole lot of disappointed JV parents who would also like to know the reason.

 

I feel for both the CovCath and HHS JV players. To put the amount of time and effort in that both of these programs require, and only get to play 4 or 5 games is tough on kids. Hopefully they use it as another life lesson that HS sports teaches. Hopefully they all stick with it and come back more determined than ever next year.

Understand the overall picture but to pick and choose your battles after committing several months ago does not send a very positive message that "we are back" and "we are moving in the right direction"

 

At some point in time, the parents and more importantly the kids have to say to themselves."how are we going to win another State Championship if we keep cancelling Highlands.

 

Or, maybe CovCath is not interested in State Titles anymore and are content with winning season:thumb: Idk, the spirit is fading here...

 

Heck, for what we know, Coach Wirth has convinced his team that they can cancel Highlands in the playoffs as well.

Can't you read? I said I did not like the decision- whatever the reason.

But to say the CCH program isn't headed in the right direction because two JV games were canceled is myopic at best and just plain dumb at worst. Wirth has this program re-built into one of the top 10 in the state, regardless of class and the future is bright- very bright.

This year they've been hit with injury after injury to key players on both sides of the ball, playing with their JV backfield and still find themselves 5-2 against a very tough schedule. THAT'S what I call a great combination of young talent, coaching and development.

All this anti Wirth talk is just birds chirping - the same kind of birds who like to propagate rumors like Wirth going to Boone Co for instance. So can all the cloak and dagger conspiracy theory bull and take it for what it is- a poor decision made over the course of a thousand right ones.

I don't think it will be played. I think HHS finds another game. And a quality one at that!

 

Maybe this will get the faithful going. Did CCH cancel or was it indeed HHS that cancelled and they are looking for a bigger challenge????..Who knows!

It takes alot to post this coming from a CovCath supporter and I appreciate it because you are dead on the money.

 

Its about the kids that put the work in and the fact that kids that play at programs like Highlands and CovCath are athletes, damn good athletes that on any given week if a kid was asked to do something he hasn't done for yrs was asked to do something he would.

 

Why would he? He does it for his team, his program and for his the spirit of the game.

He doesn't take the easy way out, he steps up to the plate and does what is asked of him and he does it to his best ability whether he is good at it or not.

 

Like I said earlier, alot of kids have been discovered doing things they shouldn't be doing or doing things they have been trained to do and have been just waiting for their chance.

 

Congrats to the young McGinnis kid tonite, it appears that maybe he could be the next Adam McCormmick or Billy Hentz...Just sayin
