Disagree, HB. When we're talking about the talent of a team then it's fair to say. I can tell you that the 2004 team had a LEGIT chance to win 3A had it not been for Highlands. HHS was better. It didn't mean CCH wasn't very strong.

And it definitely speaks to the argument that the current program is possibly at its highest point.

Once Dale lost to CovCath in 2006 he started the two platoon system and the Birds haven't looked back. Since HHS has platooned it's been stooooooooooooopid! CovCath just hasn't been able to keep up ever since then.. I would say CCH is about the same as they always have been.. Highlands has just taken it to a different level..

While you all are off on another avenue talking about how great CovCath is I have this question that I still can't get answered.

 

Why did CovCath cancel Highlands not once but twice? Is NKY biggest rivalry over?

 

If CovCath is so damn good and is 2nd best in NKY, two days behind Highlands and 2 days ahead of everyone else, then why can't they play or field a JV team?

 

Campbell Cty has no issues doing it, certainly Campbell Cty is not actually equal or ahead of CovCath are they?

Again....do you think there is something different in the water in Ft. Thomas? HHS has always had speed and athletes. I think it is more about the athletes getting more reps on one side of the ball instead of two.. IMO it is the platooning that has taken them over the top..They have won six in a row since then..:idunno:

Agreed that getting more athletes on the field is helpful. I'm simply saying Dale's Birds over the last 5 to 8 years have simply used speed and athletic ability more than any other. Their linemen aren't bulky. Heck, they used to have a kid at OT who was a 100M sprinter. They had a 150 pound DT going against Cincy X. They USE that speed and athleticism more than any other team.

Can I say the same thing for Cooper/Conner/Boone County/Simon Kenton etc. and any other school not named HHS, Beechwood or NCC? Win something and then lets pretend you have unprecedented success. I mean what it's been 30 years since Conner won a State Title and to my knowledge none of the other teams sans HHS, Beechwood, NCC and maybe a Bellevue (don't have the time to look it up) have ever won a State Title!

 

Go ahead rag on CovCath all you want for not winning a State Title since 2006 but again when was the last time some other teams from NKy won a State Title again not named HHS, Beechwood or NCC!

In the summer of 2003 one Maurice Mitchell was sitting with other CCH dads at a practice and told us that he had talked to Dale that morning and got their workout schedule. We didn't believe him until he pulled it out. Had been there, talked to Dale, and was raving about the HHS way.

It shows desperation when you have to use any Boone County school in your argument. They only had two high schools when Conner won their title. If the county still had two, multiple titles would have been by now. Let's not kid ourselves here. While CCH still operates at a distinct advantage (no boundaries), they still can't get the separation they should with said advantage.
