It's time for someone to get another sit down.

 

It does make it annoying at times, but I just consider the source and move on. It goes beyond just good natured smack talk. There are kids parents' on here, they don't deserve to hear this about their kid's teams. Factual stuff I can understand. Demeaning and just trying to incite does get intlorable. I get rooting for your team and believing they are going to win every game, many of us have a favorite team, but going over the top is just juvenile. These are kids we are talking about.

HHS offense had 7 possessions -- 5 TD's and 2 fumbles inside the JH 10. Harris ran well and Houliston completed several nice passes in the middle to Hoge and Hergott.

 

The defense was playing the old bend but do not break style for 3 plus quarters. JH played keep away and dominated time of possession. In the 4th quarter they hit a few big plays and closed the margin. Abner and Urlage must have had 20 tackles each. Way to many for kids playing safety. Credit JH for playing well on the O line and some creative play calling.

 

Twice the Birds had 21 point leads and looked on the verge of blowing it open only to see JH stick to their game plan and close the gap.

Two stats that I would like to see posted

 

1) Time of possession

 

2) number of offensive plays for each team.

Actually, the Birds were missing 2 starting linebackers in the second half....on top of the injuries that occurred. Surprised nobody noticed.

Man, I'd love to see a Highlands, Desales game. Sounds like that'd be a heck of a matchup.

In my opinion there were a lot of intangibles to consider regarding this game. Those being first game away from home, 2-3 hour bus trip, game on Saturday with a start time of 6:00 just to name a few. As Stinky said, the offense came to play but simply did not get enough snaps due to John Hardin being able to get first down after first down. Some of these first downs were on 3 and 8 or more. They very much controlled the tempo of the game, but never did I feel they were going to win the game. Defensive front seven did struggle a little tonight for whatever reason, but you certainly cannot expect a running clock in every game that you play. Actually think this game may have been a wake-up call for the Birds.

 

Very impressed with the facilities although the speaker system was not the best. Will reserve comment on the legal block that was made by saving act like you have been there before. To the coaches credit, they did get right after him and he did not go back in the game. The last play of the game was definitely bush league and the officials did a great job of making sure that another snap did not have to be taken or you may have had some issues.

 

Elam is a big kid with pretty good quickness and I can see why coaches are trying to recruit him because he has two of the things you cannot teach and that is height and weight. A little too heavy around the midsection, but a year of conditioning and weight training will certainly take care of that.

 

Overall a good night of football.

From the articles it sounds like fumbles were the main factor in this game. Those things happen but thankfully Highlands had some breathing room to soften the blow. However, it seems like a lot of the teams the Birds have played score on passing touchdowns. The run defense is usually pretty solid. They'll certainly need it against Elder down the road.

I'm going to guess that the legal block in question was one of the blindside variety ie the defender didn't see the blocker? Those never impress . How hard is it to hit a guy who doesn't see you? And then to taunt? Weak.

 

As to a DL playing full-go even when the offense is taking a knee I've got zero problem with that if it's a one-score game. Odds are long but ... you play through the whistle. It's the OL's job to keep that guy away from the ball.

Just watched the replay on Hudl and the D-lineman wasn't playing through the whistle. He stands approx 6'-6" and weighs 350lbs and wasn't in a D-lineman position. He was upright standing over top Highlands center in a blitzing position. He was never going make an attempt to find the ball. It was a cowardly attempt to roll the Highlands center back over end while Highlands centered the ball. The Bowling Green people summed it while walking past. What comes around goes around. "You don't do that to Class programs like Highlands" I just became an even bigger fan of the Purples....

Overshadowed maybe to you, but not to me. Or are you talking about the block from hell that took your player out of the game. It was a legal block, despite the rantings from all the Highlands fans. The taunting afterwords was completely uncalled for and I don't think he returned to the game after that. It seemed the mighty Highlands lost their composure after that and they were the ones landing cheap shots on the John Hardin players. To each is his own I guess.

 

Just watched the replay of the last 18-20 plays post the "Big Hit" by the John Hardin player to which was a great open field block. Still trying to find the dirty play by the Birds that you speak of. Funny how video doesn't lie but I guess it's my Blue colored glasses I wear don't see it your way. Oh wait, I wore a white pair of glasses yesterday. Lol....

I'm curious about DeSales. They beat John Hardin a couple of weeks ago. I wish them well. Is John Hardin having some internal problems?

 

1. Desales is a very good team, but Highlands would destroy them. John played the worst game I have seen them play against Desales and they still had a chance to win at the end.

2. John is fine and there are no issues that I am aware of. They should dominate district play and I fully expect them to play Bowling Green later this year.
