I know of atleast one head coach in NKY who is going to try to schedule Highlands when this current 2 year cycle is over. Interested to see how that works out.

Funny story, though slightly off topic. Point being that what people say about Highlands and how players get there is not always on target.

 

A few yrs. back I was attending the championship games of the NKYFL which were being held at Highlands. A gentleman that I knew from years past stopped me as I walked by and we spent time catching up. He pointed out his son and went on about his athletic prowess, as proud fathers do. He told me that several schools were pursuing his son and included Highlands among them. He told of conversations that he had with Dale Mueller and boasted that he had him begging. That Mueller had come to his house and come to watch his son practice. His friends were buying hook line and sinker. One talked about how he knew about this type of activity going on for years at H. As if on cue, Dale and some other coaches came out of the locker room where they had been watching film w/ the team. As Dale walked by I said hi, so he stopped and talked for a minute. I turned to my old acquaintance and said, you guys know each other right. My old acquaintance said no, and proceeded to introduce himself. Dale shook his hand and said, I am Dale Mueller, I coach football here at Highlands, good to meet you. You would have thought my old friend had seen a ghost as his face went from a smile to slack and he turned white. One of his buddy's called him out before I got a chance and they were relentless. Gentleman was so embarrassed that he practically ran to the stands.

 

This dude was a flat out liar and got exposed. For every one of him there are ten more out there who want to build there little Johnny up by telling how some school is breaking the rules to trying get him to their school.

 

It's almost comical to hear the stories that have been told over the years. From Jared Lorenzen getting a car (he drove a sub compact that was about ten years old. If he got a car he really got shafted. Talk about ten pounds of stuff in a five pound bag) to the dorm building just off campus that houses the athletes from out of state. As I said, it's almost comical, but it does get old. Today we get a guy on here saying 'I have first hand knowledge'. After being pressed what do we have. I never said it was anything that broke the rules. Same old same old.

 

My parents moved to Ft. Thomas so their kids could have better academic and extra curricular activities for their children........years before I was born. Does that make me a transfer?

 

Also glad to hear that breeding program that the birds implemented years ago is starting to pay dividends.

Just that, you named it. I never said on here that Highlands was doing anything against the rules. What I did find interesting though is that even though I never accused Highlands of doing any "wrongdoing" 75center became very defensive toward me as if I accused them of doing wrongdoing.

No it's not. It does however bring up a curious question I wonder if anyone would like to tackle. How many of those types of transfers play football? I don't know the answer, but it is a curious question.

This is all that needs to be said, why are the NKYFL championships being held at Highlands, when Highlands doesn't have a team in the league? Pretty obvious why isn't it.

Perhaps clyde, but if a kid doesn't attend Highlands middle school, and then magically ends up at Highlands high school as a freshman, would that not make him an out of district transfer, yes it does.

 

Also you forgot the Bruns twins that came from Dixie after their freshman year.

My point is that the belief that some have that kids "switch high schools" doesn't happen. Bruns boys make 6 since 2003. 1 in 2003. 3 in 2004(all came from CCH) and 2 in the Bruns boys. It's not a common occurrence as some either truly believe or want others to believe.

 

The beauty of NKY is that schools are so close to each other that parents have good choices. I do not subscribe to the belief that you must send your child to the school whose district you reside. Had my boys not gone to CCH then there's a decent chance they would have ended up at Beechwood despite me not living in Ft Mitchell. Easy access for me to a great school. Same with many who decide to send their child to Ft Thomas.

This is very true. Highlands does not get many, if any, transfers that have played varsity football at a local school and then all of the sudden they transfer to Highlands other than '03 and '04. On the other hand, they do get a hand full of kids each year that did not attend Ft. Thomas schools in grades 1 - 8 and then they "transfer" school systems to Highlands as freshman. These are also normally very good football players. For example, the Harris and Schweitzer boys that will be seniors at Highlands attended Campbell County schools all the way through middle school and then attended Highlands as tuition paying Freshman. The Bruns brothers played freshman football at Dixie before transferring to Highlands, but I believe they actually moved to Ft. Thomas. All four of those kids are and were very good football players. Harris, Schweitzer and Bruns (the DB) started or played a lot of varsity as sophomores at Highlands. Regardless, there is not recruiting taking place by Dale Mueller at Highlands and there is nothing against KHSAA rules in kids enrolling in a new school district as freshman.

 

IMO, it is up to the schools these kids are leaving to put a product on the field and in the classroom that the kids leaving and their parents want to be a part of. It is also my opinion that most of the animosity towards Highlands comes from the tuition students coming in and playing an integral part in taking Highlands from being good, to being very, very good.
