I don't know what you're waiting for. The reasons have already been told. We are talking about kids who were not in highlands school district but transferred there before HS. It's no big secret folks but you all act like its a mystery.

This is all that needs to be said, why are the NKYFL championships being held at Highlands, when Highlands doesn't have a team in the league? Pretty obvious why isn't it.

 

Really????????????????? Another misinformed poster that likes to throw barbs. From what I understand they played at Highlands because they were one of the few at the time that had turf.

At least one if not both of the True kids went to Turkeyfoot middle school and then enrolled at HHS as Frosh. Perfectly legal and I don't blame them. I'm sure there are a number of kids that legally make arrangements so they can enroll at HHS. If I was a middle school kid I would try to get my parents to. If I had a boy that age I would do it.

 

Does HHS recruit? Sure they do. By putting out an amazing product on the field. When your product is that good people want to be a part of it. Nothing illegal.

Funny story, though slightly off topic. Point being that what people say about Highlands and how players get there is not always on target.

 

A few yrs. back I was attending the championship games of the NKYFL which were being held at Highlands. A gentleman that I knew from years past stopped me as I walked by and we spent time catching up. He pointed out his son and went on about his athletic prowess, as proud fathers do. He told me that several schools were pursuing his son and included Highlands among them. He told of conversations that he had with Dale Mueller and boasted that he had him begging. That Mueller had come to his house and come to watch his son practice. His friends were buying hook line and sinker. One talked about how he knew about this type of activity going on for years at H. As if on cue, Dale and some other coaches came out of the locker room where they had been watching film w/ the team. As Dale walked by I said hi, so he stopped and talked for a minute. I turned to my old acquaintance and said, you guys know each other right. My old acquaintance said no, and proceeded to introduce himself. Dale shook his hand and said, I am Dale Mueller, I coach football here at Highlands, good to meet you. You would have thought my old friend had seen a ghost as his face went from a smile to slack and he turned white. One of his buddy's called him out before I got a chance and they were relentless. Gentleman was so embarrassed that he practically ran to the stands.

 

This dude was a flat out liar and got exposed. For every one of him there are ten more out there who want to build there little Johnny up by telling how some school is breaking the rules to trying get him to their school.

 

It's almost comical to hear the stories that have been told over the years. From Jared Lorenzen getting a car (he drove a sub compact that was about ten years old. If he got a car he really got shafted. Talk about ten pounds of stuff in a five pound bag) to the dorm building just off campus that houses the athletes from out of state. As I said, it's almost comical, but it does get old. Today we get a guy on here saying 'I have first hand knowledge'. After being pressed what do we have. I never said it was anything that broke the rules. Same old same old.

 

My parents moved to Ft. Thomas so their kids could have better academic and extra curricular activities for their children........years before I was born. Does that make me a transfer?

 

Also glad to hear that breeding program that the birds implemented years ago is starting to pay dividends.

I have heard this same crap from time to time and I look at these people and tell them that their kid is a very good football player and I think it is awesome that they are considering being an Student/Athlete at Highlands, nothing more and nothing less.

 

Looking back some 100 yrs of Highlands history, I still can't name one kid, family or parent bigger than Highlands, not a single one and I believe neither Dale and Highlands will ever sell out this storied program over anyone kid, ever...Just sayin

Not talking about that type of money, but I have heard of some high schools offer their entire home gate to teams just to play them.

 

I guess that is a similar incentive but at a much smaller scale...

For the most part JOAT, BGP members are well informed and educated when it comes to their sports. Some have a little less knowledge of the real and true facts and some just want to troll.

Because I couldn't and wouldn't use a certain word that you have already warned me about in the past. When athletes "transfer" to highlands for high school, some are persuaded by others to do so, not saying by Dale, but others in the community. It has happened and to say it hasn't is silly. It happens at other schools with open enrollment to, no big deal. I can't blame any school for allowing it if it is within the rules.

Recruiting of High School athletes is illegal! Thats why they are recruited in MIDDLE SCHOOL!

 

As impotent as KHSAA is, would it really matter. You could pay players and they would ignore it.

 

All kidding aside, could the real reason for HHS excellence in football just boil down to not offering other fall sports in order to funnel athletes into football? If I am not mistaken, I don't believe they do not offer soccer and wonder if they offer Cross Country. And in case you have not noticed, the rest e sued of their athletic programs, with the exception of girls bb, is nothing special.

You might be confusing HHS with Beechwood. As I recall, a doctor and his wife sued BHS maybe a dozen years ago for failing to field a girls soccer team. Seems that if schools offer girls soccer, they also must also offer boys soccer, and that would dilute football at BHS. Perhaps a Tigers athletic supporter can validate my account and let the board know where things stand today.

It's very obvious to me. But you seem to be very misled. Highlands rents their field to all variety of folks. Their have been soccer leagues, Baseball teams, semi pro football, charity football games, KHSAA playoff games featuring two teams other than Highlands. For two consecutive years the NKYFL rented the field for championships. They approached Highlands about the field and payed the rent.

 

Every other year excepting those two, those games were played on the field of some other school. Are those schools doing something wrong by hosting? I know exactly what the Highlands folks were thinking. ' Heck yea you can play here. Write a check and help me pay for this turf.'

As one who lived in Oakbrook when Cooper first opened, I knew of a half a dozen kids who used their Grandparents and or Aunts and Uncles addresses to be able to attend Cooper instead of Boone County.

 

I also knew of kids whose mothers were bus drivers, aides and or worked in the Cafeteria, so their kids could attend the Boone County Board of Education HS of their choice!

 

So while on paper, Boone County Schools are closed (and that is the BC BOE choice and not a mandate by the Commonwealth BOE) people do have a way of getting around the rules in the County of Boone!

Jake True went to Turkeyfoot. My ex wife taught him. He said then he was going to go to HHS. So he must of attended highlands middle school as an 8th grader so I was off by one year.

The younger brother went to turkeyfoot as a 6th grader. So they both did attend Turkeyfoot. I just got when the move took place off by a year.
