One more question...why aren't you guys concerned with HHS girls bball??? Out of their 5 starters last year, one lived in Ft Thomas. Out of their top 12 varsity players, 4 of them lived in Ft. Thomas! That's a much higher out of district percentage than football. What aren't they screaming about that!!!! Because its not just football at HHS. Kids flock to that school for multiple reasons...the biggest being academics! And before you go there, there isn't a more squeeky clean coach than Jaime Richey. If she hears rumors that a kid wants to come from another district, she won't even make eye contact with you until you are enrolled! I have seen that first hand. Almost to the point where she comes off rude because she won't talk to you. She not, but focused on a clean program...like all of us at HHS!

Would Cooper, Conner, SK, Boone, Ryle all get beat 74-0. Don't think so. The reason to play HHS is to give your kids something to strive for. To benchmark your program.

I think Cooper did pretty darn good last year without playing Highlands.

 

something you need to understand is Boone County doesn't have open enrollment therefor, because of 4 public high schools all within a couple miles from eachother will have good years and bad years. It will all depend on the kids coming into the schools each year. they don't get the opportunity to choose which school they want to attend which means the talented players coming through each school is limited. It occurs in waves. Last year Cooper had a great year with the group of seniors and juniors they had. Next year will be different because of the athletes that will be there, last year there were only something like 6-8 sophomores that came out for the team, next year should be a down year. The year after should be better simply due to the number of athletes in this year's sophomore class and next years sophomores coming in.

 

When you schedule teams to play, I would think your first concern is getting the team ready for district play first and foremost so you would want teams that can challenge you, not destroy you. Also you make 2 year contracts usually which means normally in the boone county schools 2 years can be a totally different type of team you have. Again, nothing against Highlands, their record speaks for itself but I would think a St. X scheduling Highlands or a Bowling Green scheduling Highlands would benefit both teams more than a Boone County scheduling Highlands.

 

Just my opinion, but the fact is playing a Highlands isn't garunteed to make you better, but with a beat down it is more realistically to tear a team down more.

You do know someone will take your post to heart, then we can hear them wine about the pros recruiting for HHS.

 

On a more serious note, think about it. Is one player on a high school team as deep and talented as the Birds are, going to really make a difference ? Over 100 players on the varsity roster and 40 to 50 of them having lots of game experience and we are not talking special teams. I don't care if they transfer or get recruited from Mars, they will not make a difference. I thought Dale had "lost it" when I saw the starting QB (McCoy) returning kick offs. Shows you what I know. Dale knew if the injury bug had hit, he knew he had an experienced QB ready to take his place.

 

Over the past 6 years there have been many injuries to star players, some season ending injuries and some that held the players out for several games. Patrick Towles gets a concussion in the Elder game in the first quarter, and McCoy came in to lead the Birds to the victory. Austin Collinsworth sits out several games with a thumb injury , and once again the Birds don't miss a beat. Mr. KY football candidate Josh Conner breaks his leg in the Male preseason scrimmage and sits out the almost half the season, he did play some but was never the same. Once again an experienced player took over and the Birds don't miss a beat. Bardo has a season ending injury in the Cincy X game , Towles takes his place and the Birds don't miss a beat. Brandon Roller has a season ending injury his junior year , Birds win state with a valuable experienced replacement. Are you seeing a trend here. I'm sure there are more examples that I'm forgetting or not know about. I haven't even started on the players that were not 100% and still playing with those injuries. My point is, this Birds team doesn't need tranfers because they have plenty of experienced studs ready to step in. This comes from decades of building a program , and having the coaches with enough knowledge to teach the players what it takes to win on a yearly basis. My bottom line is , HHS doesn't need to recruit, plenty of stud players with plenty of game experience, ready to step in when needed. So , in my opinion, one transfer or recruit doesn't mean squat to a team that is as deep and talented as the Birds.

 

I was a transfer. I went from St. Catherine which is also in Ft. Thomas to Highlands. I played football my Freshman year, but there wasn't anybody screaming "foul". :lol2:: What's up with that? :idunno:
