I've not read this entire post, so if its been touched upon, forgive me. I ask this, how many high schools in NKY in the last 14 years has had to forfeit games due to an inelligible player? So don't tell me they don't cheat.... I have first hand knowledge of red devil players being invited into the HHS locker rooms by the varsity head coach. I think strawberryshakeman said in an earlier post that hhs's descision was for financial reasons to host youth football games. Maybe, but they absolutely did it for their own selfish reason to get these other out of distrct football players running to HHS. Are they wrong for that? He'll no, but once you start taking those kids into the locker room, now you are recruiting them, no other way sugar it, sorry.

 

The sad part for the rest of the NKY teams, HHS doesn't have to recruit, kids will come regardless.

 

If you are referring to the Mitchell case, those forfeits were later overturned by the KHSAA and the losses were restored. You really, really don't want to get into a discussion about the Mitchell case with me. The lawyer in me causes me to not say: I know the Mitchell case facts better than anyone on this site, so I'll instead I'll say: I know those facts probably better than any one on this site.

 

And for the posters that weren't around when the Mitchell case was discussed ad nauseum on here, when the sanctions were improperly first issued, it was not for cheating or recruiting or anything of the like. At no time did the KHSAA or anyone allege that Highlands had recruited Mitchell or cheated. The improper sanctions were imposed because Highlands had the audacity, the sheer audacity, to follow the directive of a court instead of the KHSAA. Fortunately for the rule of law principle, the General Assembly later gave the Board of Control members a Civics 101 lesson (a ruling of the judiciary trumps the ruling of a state administrative agency) and banned the KHSAA from imposing sanctions on a school for following a court order. Which you would have thought the educators on the Board of Control would have already known but evidently did not.

Just asking why everyone is so concerned about the football team! Why not address them all?? Heck, half my starters on my softball team don't live in ft thomas.

Wasn't really trying to get anyone to "bite", I'm saying that it's all sports and people only concern themselves with football. Why? Because they win and they have to be doing something wrong??

 

As for your question, I'll do my best to answer, but I'm sure there are others that know more than I do. Most of them were in the system way before the pull back on the tuition students. And from my understanding, that it is a year to year assessment based on numbers. Sometimes you get a class with a very large amount of Ft Thomas kids. When you get a couple of those in a row, it limits the spaces for others. When those kids move on, then it can go back to normal. And if you get a extra large class on occasions, the lock down may only be applied to that particular class.

 

In those softball and bball examples, my kid is one of them that pays tuition...and I coach there!

As to the thread question, the simple answer to me is this: teams that don't believe they will benefit from (a.k.a. being competitive in a game vs. Highlands with 1st team vs. 1st team) do not schedule the Birds. No one benefits from a blowout where the game is over at halftime. Sure, there may be 1-2 isolated incidents of "running up the score" literally last century and this school will never again schedule Highlands blah blah blah.

 

Some facts from my point of view: HHS kids work super hard year round, the coaching staff is outstanding/dedicated and develops players (including ALWAYS having a great QB in the pipeline due to their development prowess), parents want a fine education for their children and some kids also like to play football and be part of something bigger than themselves, so they get to be part of a championship/first class football team as a little icing on the "cupcake", it's a great community to live in and success breeds success (we all know that ATTITUDE is vital to success and the Birds have a winning attitude and expect to win every time they take the field). I guess I'm a Koolaid sipper. HHS has earned my respect.

Here are the very simple facts.

 

Parents and kids want to attend Highlands because it is one of the best schools in the state. They choose to live in Ft. Thomas so their kids can attend the school. As was said earlier, build it and they will come. No "recruiting" is necessary. Top academics, winning tradition, competing at the highest level ... that draws the best.

 

The recent success at Highlands is not due to the hardest working kids or transfers or the greatest coaching staff, the youth football league, etc. etc. Yes those all help but there are other schools where the kids work just as hard and get kids that move into their district and have excellent coaches and have kids who play youth football. These last 6 titles are mainly a result of a great move and the vision of Dale Mueller. When he went to two platoon football and committed his staff and the program on that course, he leapfrogged almost every school in the state. By having two platoon football, the players get twice the reps, more individual focus on learning a position, and they have an advantage on Friday night over almost every team they play. The more teams work toward two platoon football, the better chance they will have to beat the Birds.

 

As to why teams don't schedule them - if you don't feel you have any chance to beat them, why schedule them? The big schools need to step it up, stop taking the easy way out and playing your stars both ways, focus on building a two platoon team and the gap will narrow. Then more schools will have a chance to beat the Birds and will be more open to scheduling them.

Hmmmmm. Turds and crap. I am sensing an excrement theme here so I will parlay off of that.

 

HHS might come across as their poop does not stink. Whether you like it or not, they have the hardware to back it up and a long, storied tradition attached. If the grass is always greener in Fort Thomas then now we really know why. Fertilizer.

 

What smells worse to me is reading the knee deep in dung posts from a certain fan in the last year from another school with blue uniforms that made HHS aromatic in comparison.

However this winter I asked Coach Mueller if he would allow me to come and observe their off season program. He graciously accepted and me and the other gentlemen I was with who has coached in several area programs were blown away. We came away with the belief that yes they do out work everyone and a ton of ideas and drills to use at the school we are coaching at. The level of intensity and movement (no breaks) the entire 3+ hours was mind blowing.
